Though India is developing economically and technologically by leaps and bounds, women here still continue to be discriminated. Census 2001 shows our national sex ratio as 921:1000 (921 females for 1000 males), and this will lead to detrimental social problems if not corrected. The main reason for this is female infanticide. Gender wise abortions are on the rise. In economically developed states such as Haryana and Punjab the tendency is found to be more.A shocking study reveals that half of the world’s malnourished children live in India owing primarily to the lack of nutritious food available to the mother. In all the critical stages, be it infancy, childhood, adolescence or the reproductive phase many women suffer malnutrition purely due to the discrimination and the narrow mindsets of the society.A shocking study reveals that half of the world’s malnourished children live in India owing primarily to the lack of nutritious food available to the mother. Dowry still remains the major reason for all the discrimination and injustice shown to women. Dowry has always been an important part of Hindu marriages. Not only among Hindus, its evil tentacles are now spreading to other religions also. But despite all these measures there should be a strong determination among every man that every woman in this country should be honoured. Only then empowerment in its true meaning will be realized.

Women empowerment is a serious issue in this era.Earlier women had all the rights which were equal to men in vedic era.then women lagged behind during 18-19 century in india. But in last two decades, women have closure to men in all sector which include every kind of work. They are walking foot to foot with men. If we watch out our third prime minister was a highly esteemed woman. In current scenario, our honourable president is a woman. The political party which has won the 2009 general election is headed by a woman. So, we can say that women are empowered in every field. Still, there are lots of thing to do to empower women more. In our near future , we will see that it will be done by the women themselves . In Indian culture ,we respect woman a lot because they are our pillar of strenght. They are the centre of a family. So woman empowerment is the need of our society.

According to me, woman empowerment is a distant dream. Women may be educated and working, but when it comes to personal life, there is discrimination. Even if she earns equally or more than the male members of the family, the important decisions are still taken by the men. When situation demands its the woman who have to quit the job, in order to take care of the family. They suffer all sorts of torturing. At the same time they have to take care of the whole family.
In this era a woman is expected to be traditional, obedient and bearing all torture. The dowry system itself is increasing. As long as dowry system exist the parents will consider a girl child as a burden. So it is this system that is to be banned. For this along with law the society has to arise and educate its members regarding the importance of removing dowry system from our nation and thereby paving way for the empowerment of women. This intern will bring a new generation and society which is more civilized.
