A seminar on National Conference on Wonderful World of Insects
B.N. Bandodkar College of Science
Thane

3rd Dec 2008

Aim and Objective of the seminar :

Insects form the largest animal group. Though we observe and know certain common insect types, there are many fascinating things about insects that many of us do not know. Sometimes we have misconceptions even about certain common insects. If we develop a habit to be a good observer, we can know much about the insects. To promote and encourage observational studies on insects, we have arranged a one day seminar on “Wonderful World of Insects”.

Through the present seminar we wish to encourage the school and college students and nature lovers to participate in small projects such as poster making, insect photography, and observational studies on insect life cycle, behaviours, habits etc.

Insecta is a very important, diverse and wonderful group. There is a great variety of insects which have different kinds of life habitats. Many insects are harmful to plants, animals and man, but there are useful insects too. The insects have medicinal value, they are diagnostic in forensic studies. Predatory and parasitic insects are useful in Biological control of pest. These aspects have made them economically important. The insects afford endless opportunities for exploration. These studies appeal both children and adults of different age groups. Participation in the projects and the seminar will not only help in developing greater appreciation for insects but also keen sense of
observation of nature. This in long run will develop responsible and eco friendly citizens of India.

One can participate in the seminar in three sections :

Poster making - To give interesting information on insects which may be based on own observations or from books, internet etc. Maximum two posters on poster paper (20”x30”).
