The Kannada organisations on Monday urged the Government to cancel its order to shift the office of Joint Director of Education Department from Belgaum to Dharwad.
The leaders of the Kannada organisations, under the banner of Belgaum District Kannada Organisations’ Action Committee has forwarded a memorandum to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy through the district administration.
The Government has, in its notification served on August 28, instructed to shift the Joint Director of Education Department to Dharwad.
The Joint Director of the Education Department would be merged with the Commissionerate office of the Education at Dharwad.
“As a consequence, hundreds of Kannada linguistic families will have to shift to Dharwad,’’ the Committee complained. The population of Kannada-speaking people in border area- Belgaum could be reduced if the offices operating here are shifted.
Except Belgaum, all the commissionerate offices of the Education Departments are working in the divisional places. Belgaum, being a divisional place, should not be deprived of its privilages, it was pointed out.
The organisations also urged the Chief Minister to shift the Commissionerate office of the said department from Dharwad to Belgaum since Belgaum is being granted the second capital status.
