First of all, let us congratulate team INDIA for creating history, for highest run chase in T20I’S. They chased a huge target of 206 in 20 overs(with the initial required run rate being 10.3) and succeeded by chasing it in 19.1 overs. They created history because this is the HIGHEST RUN CHASE IN T20I’S. It looked to be an easy chase for the ex-champions , with a dangerous batting line-up, but all Indian fans kept their finger crossed since it is very hard to predict the result in T20.
There were lots of expectations from the fans , as it was the birthday of their local hero, Yuvraj Singh. But India’s campaign was suffering from Flu disease and injuries. Sreesanth was tested positive for Swine-Flu and rumors said that even the star performer for India in previous match Gautam Gambir was also suffering from swine-flu but later it was confirmed Gambhir tested negative and he will play.
During Street Talk, conducted by Nimbus Productions, all fans expressed their views on team India’s poor performance in their last match. “Indian players possessed butter fingers. They couldn’t believe their own eyes by seeing World’s one of the best recognized fielders Yuvraj Singh who dropped a catch of the dangerous Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya( in the first T20) and moreover the ball never stuck in the hands of Indian players. It hurts, as BCCI recruited a new fielding coach replacing Robin Singh, who was one of the best fielder during his times.” – views of Indian fans and some cricket experts.
Coming to the teams, the Lankans had one change, and they dropped Pushpakumara, the off spinning all rounder, and he was replaced by medium-pace all rounder, Kaushalya Weeraratne. The Indian side has three changes, Sudeep Tyagi, Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja replaced Ashok Dinda, Rohit Sharma and Pragyan Ojha resprctively.Sudeep Tyagi made his international debut.
All fans in stadium were eager to see their hero’s performance(Yuvraj ) with both ball and bat .As the match progressed, the Lankan’s lost one of their openers Dilshan in the second over of the game to Indian pacer I.Sharma .The Indian’s poor fielding performance continued, as Ravindra Jadeja dropped a easy catch of Lankan’s skipper Kumar Sangakkara and it was the first drop catch of the night. India’s poor performance continued, as they gave 9 extras in wides in 6.2 overs and at the end of first half, the opposition set a huge target of 206 in 20 overs.
India’s performance with the ball and fielding were worse than the Nagpur match. India gave 24 extras, with 17 wides and 7 leg byes. India bowled nearly four extra overs in addition to twenty overs. India’s fielding was also poor they dropped nearly six catches.
India started their run chase with two destructive openers of Gautam Gambir and Virender Sehwag. Sri Lankan players were also sloppy in the field. Sehwag would have been run out in the second over. India lost the first wicket, as Gautam Gambir was run out, when the scoreboard was 58 in 6 overs.
Then the Indian skipper MS Dhoni started to build a important partnership Virender Sehwag . Sehwag entertained the Indian fans with his explosive batting and he reached his fifty in just 28 balls, with India reaching the hundred run mark in 10 overs and India needed 103 from 60 balls, with 9 wickets in hand.
The dangerous Sehwag was out for 64 runs (of 36 balls, which included 7-4’s and 3-6’s) and this gave the way for the birthday boy and he was given a warm welcome by his home town. Yuvraj did a great job in bowling as he picked 3 wickets i n 3 overs,by giving away just 23 runs. Yuvraj and Dhoni formed a good partnership. The first boundary for the birthday boy came when he hit a full toss ball for a boundary and it was followed by a huge six of a good length ball and Yuvraj started to play an explosive innings.
India reached 151/2 in 14 overs and they required 56 runs from 36 balls, with 8 wickets in hand. The Sri Lankan skipper doesn’t know what to do and so he decided to go with pacers. Yuvi completed his 50* runs in 20 balls and this is the third fastest 50 in T 20.
Then Dhoni was bowled by a beautiful yorker from Fernando. Dhoni scored 46 runs from 28 balls, which includes 3-4’s and 2-6’s and at that stage India needed 19 from 18 balls. Raina started well with a boundary and the statistics reduced to 12 runs from 12 balls with 7 wickets in hand. Dilshan was given the opportunity to bowl the 19th over. Raina scored a boundary in this over, but he was out, run out.India needed 6 runs from 7 balls and Karthik, who faced his first ball played a late-cut and scored 4 runs.
India needed just 2 runs of the last over and Yuvraj finished the innings in a style, with yet another six and set a world record as this is the HIGHEST RUN CHASE IN T20I’S. Yuvraj was awarded the Man of the match and the trophy was shared by the two captains.
