Toyota Kirloskar Motor has, in conjunction with Toyota Motor Corporation and its nationwide dealer network, has introduced a unique training initiative - The Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP) at Sir C.V Raman Industrial Training Institute.
Toyota, with this special training module aims at enhancing the skill sets and employability of the students at the Sir C.V Raman Industrial Training Institute. In the first batch as many as 32 students will undergo the T-TEP training this year. Nearly 2000 students are going to be benefited through the programme. T-TEP aims to support the Industrial Training Institutes in the country to develop highly skilled young talented technicians for the automotive industry and thus increase their profitability. Technical manpower available in India suffers from low certification rates and is not trained for repair and diagnostics. T-TEP hopes to bridge these gaps by partnering with Industrial Training Institutes and jointly working with its dealers over the next four years.
“We believe that the partnership with Technical Institutes will enhance the technical prowess of the students and on a macro level will benefit the Indian Auto Industry,” said Mr. K. K. Swamy, Deputy General Manager, TKM.
TKM has partnered with 6 technical training institutes - Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Industrial Training Center Gurdwara at Delhi, St. Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute (Don Bosco Industrial Institute) at Mumbai, Mohanmull Chordia Jain Industrial Training Center at Chennai, Deshpande Institute of Vocational Training Udyog near Hubli, Government Industrial Training Institute in Bangalore, and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Industrial training center, Pune. So far 66 technicians out of the 74 who underwent the T-TEP training at these institutes have been employed by Toyota dealership.
Apart from being technical institutes of academic repute and offering automotive courses with proper classrooms, practice areas, the institutes selected for participation in T-TEP, should have adequate number of qualified automotive instructors with Government-approved credentials. T-TEP curriculum has been synchronized with Industrial Training Institute’s syllabus in the 2nd year of the course. In addition to that, on the job training will be provided at the nearby Toyota dealership, every week, for a period of 6 months, so students can get a first hand feel of Toyota Production System. T-TEP also aims to be a part of Toyota’s comprehensive human resource development system that extends from the training at T-TEP institutes to recruitment at Toyota dealerships.
TKM will partner with 20 technical Institutes across the country by 2010 and would be investing approximately Rs 60 million for T-TEP implementation in the country. Nearly 2000 technical institute students will benefit from this programme.
Under this unique technical education program, TKM will partner the institutes by training the instructors of the institute with the latest technology used at Toyota. Additionally, this initiative will provide exposure to the students to the cutting edge technology used in automotive industry. TMC would fund the project along with providing T-TEP hi-tech training packages and Toyota service training manuals.
The effectiveness of T-TEP is widely recognized throughout the world. Globally, Toyota has introduced this program in 52 countries, which include USA, Australia, Italy, South Africa, China and Vietnam and India. T-TEP has been implemented in 436 institutes across the 52 countries.
