Advanced Post Graduate Diploma Course in Geographical Information System (GIS) And Remote Sensing Applications

PROSPECTUS
I. Introduction:
The Advanced Postgraduate Diploma Course in Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing Applications under the UGC innovative program by the Department of Geography, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University from 2007 aims to impart detailed technical knowledge in Information technology and the methods on the tools of application of GIS and Remote Sensing to all the Postgraduate disciplines in Science and B.E.graduates.

II. Eligiblity:
A pass in any Postgraduate disciplines in Science and B.E. graduates.

III Selection Procedure:
The students will be selected on the merit basis.

IV. Reservation:
In all admissions Tamil Nadu Government Reservation Policy will be followed.

V. Number of Seats:
The total number of students intake include 15 and out of which 5 seats reserved for sponsored candidates. However, if the required number of sponsored candidates are found unavailable or unsuitable, other candidates will be selected.
Research institutions, Government departments (Survey of India, Water Resources Division, Forestry, Animal husbandry, Public Health, Environment, Pollution Control boards, Resources Division, Mining and so on) and planning and private organizations can sponsor candidates will have to be regular employees. The sponsored candidates will have to submit their applications through the sponsor along with a bonafide order of appointment from the employer. The employer can sponsor only one candidate at a time per year. The candidates selected under sponsored quota will also have to remit their regular fees at the time of admission as indicated in the prospectus. Sponsored candidates will have to go through the selection process as for other candidates.

VI. ADMISSION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING PROSPECTUS AND APPLICATION FORM
Prospectus and application can be downloaded from the University website www.mkuniversity.org from 17.10.2007. Xerox copy of the downloaded application may also be used.
The Demand Draft should have been obtained after the date of notification and before the last date for receipt of filled-in application.

Note: Cheques, postal orders, money orders and cash will not be accepted.
1.Candidates shall affix passport size photographs in the application. A Gazetted Officer shall duly attest the photographs. The original application shall be sent to The Registrar, Madurai Kamaraj Univeristy, Palkalai Nagar, Madurai 625 021 along with the Demand Draft for Rs. 300/- towards Registration Fee drawn in favour of The Registrar, Madurai Kamaraj University, Payable at Madurai. Two self-addressed stamped envelopes for Rs.10/- each (to be enclosed). The application should be made in the candidate's own handwriting. Applications, which are incomplete/defective, in any respect, will be rejected.
2. The candidates provisionally selected for admission will be informed individually by post
and they need to be prepared to join the course at the stipulated time.
3. Candidates provisionally selected will have to submit the following certificates in original at
the time of joining.

A. Statement of marks/grade certificates and Provisional Certificate
B. Conduct certificate from the head of the institution last studied
C. Transfer Certificate
D. Community Certificate
E. Sponsorship certificate, if any
F. Such other certificates, as may be required by the University

4.Fees Payable:-
All the Fees should be paid at the time of Admission

Note: The fees should be remitted into the following Accounts at the State Bank of India, Palkalai Nagar Branch, Madurai-21.

5. Provisionally selected candidates should immediately pay the fees and special fees as are prescribed for the whole year. Provisionally selected candidates who do not pay their fees within the time specified on the admission intimation will forfeit their seats.

VII. General Information:

1.Filled in applications along with the registration fee received after the last date will be summarily rejected. Queries regarding receipt of applications in the University office will not be entertained.
2.Students who have passed the examination of other Universities shall produce the provisional Eligibility Certificate obtained from the Madurai Kamaraj University. Till the University grants recognition, such admissions shall be provisional.
3.The University is not responsible for any delay or loss in postal transit.

4 HOSTEL FACILITIES:
a.Separate hostel facilities are available for men and women candidates in the
University campus.
b.The nature of the course may require the students to take up hostel facilities, however,
for hostel accommodation the candidates are advised to approach the respective
wardens separately.
