Often there is confusion between the terms obesity and overweight. But there is a clear distinction between these terms. Obesity is defined as an excessive accumulation of fat in the body, whereas overweight is defined as excess body weight relative to height. A person with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or more is considered obese. Obesity can affect both adults and children. It has become a serious problem these days as days can lead to death if neglected.
Causes of obesity
The first major cause of obesity is high consumption of calories. In addition, the current way of life has been a contributing factor to obesity. Technology has made life easier. Many daily tasks are completed by sitting in one place. United States and the United Kingdom have reported that obese children as well. The reason for this behavior is the same. The lifestyle of children revolves around the television and computer to reduce the physical movement. Apart from these cases, genes also play an important role in issues relating to weight.
The risks associated with obesity
Obesity should be treated in its initial phase for the simple reason that it affects the health of a person directly. It is observed that obese people are more prone to heart disease. The risk of heart attack and heart failure is becoming such persons. Problem of hypertension is common in obese people. An abnormal increase in weight can also lead to diabetes. Apart from these problems, obesity can cause cancer or arthritis.
Treatment available
The slimming pills are available for the treatment of obesity. These pills include Xenical and Reductil. Studies have shown that the slimming pills have proved effective in weight loss. Both Meridia and Xenical are drugs approved by FDA and must be taken strictly on doctor's prescription.
Xenical is considered a safe drug. Orlistat, an active ingredient in Xenical works directly in the stomach by absorbing fat to be accumulated in the body. Therefore, it is known as an inhibitor of fat. This fat is released from the intestine. Xenical should be taken for a long time to be effective. It is available in doses of 120mg and it is recommended to take three times a day. This pill must be taken strictly from an hour after meals or during meals.
Reductil is known as appetite suppressant. Sibutramine, which is the active ingredient in Reductil acts on two neurotransmitters from being reabsorbed and thus creates a sensation of fullness, even if the person has eaten little. This naturally reduces the intake of food thereby reducing the consumption of fat. Reductil is available in 10 mg and 15 mg and it is recommended that you take once a day. It must be continued until your doctor tells you to stop this treatment.
Xenical and Reductil are not the magic drug. The exercise and controlled diet is necessary with these drugs. Do not forget the good form is the essence of healthy living.
