College: St. Xaviers College, Ranchi

Review: St.Xaviers College: Best college!
Review By: Aira    Review Date: 15 Sep 2009

This colleges is very old colleges in Ranchi. I have been to this colleges many a times because my school best friend has been studied in this colleges. The colleges is great, one of the best college in Ranchi, it is very reputed and strict college.

The building is very beautiful, as you enter in the colleges there is a big space and then straight there is a hall where students and teachers gather for any functions or seminars etc. That hall is also used for various purposes depending upon need like examination purpose, meetings, festivals etc.

Just besides it is a library on the right hand side and the library is so big and filled with gallons of books, fictions, poems books, magazines and whatever books you require you can get it from there. A special library is there known as the goethals Indian library and research center. Situated adjacent to the college building, just above the main chapel, it is a piece of history in itself. It contains around 18663 volumes of books ranging from Indian history to biographies, religion to law & medicine etc. some of the books there are rarely found and so old that a hard touch would turn its pages into powders. On the same way, if you take little left there is a stairs and upstairs there is a IGNOU Department where people who want to pursue from IGNOU those student are allowed to go and not only that I have seen any students from that colleges enters wherever they want but students are very nice so they know where they want to go and have fun or study.

Well, coming back to building, the college building is very large, it has a three storey building in each and there are more than 100 rooms in college excluding ground floor. The rooms are very big in size and there are many student in the colleges more than 5000 students who comes from various state and cities to study here. The room has got projectors too wherever required and the room has fans, not one but three four in each room. You can see tribal students who are local there as well as general too.

There has been three streams in the colleges being offered for courses like Arts, Science and Commerce. One can study here after 10th and can be graduate here with great zeal and the students of this college feel proud of been studied in Xaviers.. :-) If you have met any Xavierite ever, most of them would tell you that Xavier’s grows on you why because the college name and fame depends on students result...and most probably you wouldn’t have understood.

Xavier’s colleges is very popular and one of the best college thats why student tries their best to get admission here and so do the parents wants their child to study here. I have heard that Xaviers has its own share of rich students, but you would be surprised to know that sparing a meager few, most of these students rarely even acknowledge their financial status...But I wasn’t mistaken about Xaviers’ canteen..it definitely is one of the best...actually the best college canteen in Ranchi. The food is so tasty and hygienic and the canteen boy is also very nice. The rates are very low, very affordable for all classes. You can see all ..right from students to teachers, staff and all employees have always liked the canteen food and there is always some of them in canteen.

The strength of the colleges is I think the teachers who has been serving for last many years, they are so cooperative and helpful to their students and dedicated their time to them. Whenever they required or needed teachers are always available, physically or on phone but they are always ready to help the students. I believe, the teachers are the assets of the college. They are always there in the time of need. They are always there to put an extra effort on their students. Some of the teachers even organize special classes to enhance other skills and abilities. Some of the notable teachers of the college are Prof. Mukherjee (economics), Prof. Ghosh, Prof. Chakraborty (Maths), MRS. Juhi Horo (Eng) were great. Well, the quality of teachers is also superior to other colleges.. Student- teacher relations are the best I’ve ever seen... Students can walk up to the teachers anytime for queries and help outside the curriculum even.

Whenever I go to meet my friend, I too sit in the class but no one recognize who am I, as there are hundreds of student in a class. I enjoy a lot there while having class. I feel that Xavier’s is the place to be if you believe you should be studying and having fun at the same time. In fact Xavier’s is the place to be!!!

What is very strict is students attendance. The college regulation, however , requires that a student must put in a minimum of 90% of attendance in every subject each year, taking theory, practical and tutorial separately. No student is allowed to leave the classroom during the lecture without the permission of the teacher. I like the most that the student are not allowed to freak out or stand about the verandas or corridors of the college during class hours. When it comes to parking each one follows the parking rule of the college because it is very strict to all. The rules and regulation of the colleges is very good. The placement cell manages its activities collectively by the students and all head of departments. The Staff coordinators support in all the Cell activities.

All I can say, the college rocks with not only teachers and students but also with the entire team. Festivals and occasions are never missed here. They all celebrates it with great zeal and energy..students study here and enjoy a lot too. The campus is very beautiful and big inside.

Every years the college organises so many events like annual function, college day teachers day, etc.
I have completed my BA from this college and completed Bachelor degree in Office management & Secretarial Practicein 2006.
In our courses we have to study Office Communiaction, Typing, Shorthand, and Computer.
Our HOD take our communication class and in our last years Mr. Sharma Sir from R& D take our class in early morning. He is very smart and very helpful. I like his personality.
Our classes runs from 6.30 to 11.30 am and after take our classes our over.
Near to our college there is a govt. hospital named Sewa Sadan, ranchi.

After every class the bell rang and the student went outside in the canteen for samoshas, egg roll, tea, chowmein etc.

One day together with my friends we went to cnateen for celebrating id, the muslim friend bought milk and sawai and sugar, and we are about 10-12 friends, the milk was boiled and after all the sawai was prepared and we all enjoy very much.

We usually went to canteen for tea and samosha because we have our classes early in the morning and we get hungry after 2-3 hours after class.

outside our college there was two restaraunt name Hasty Tasty and Vaishnavi but one of this was closed due to some problem.

We usually went to vaishnavi to celebrate birthday party of our friends and there was a crowd of st. xaviers students.
The college issued the student card for library use. we mostly use books from library for preparing our notes and projects.

After the clss was over we have some gossip in corridor and leave for home.

I went to the church two times and it is very fantastic experience there is very silence and you will feel that u have come in the other world. We spend some time if we have a regular class. and after that continue our class.

It was set up keeping in mind the need create awareness among the students and to sharpen themselves themselves in fast changing world. St.Xaviers also encourage the students to go beyond discipline. The students are free to chose their career goals and work towards achieving them.

The college is good for people who strives to achieve excellence. The teachers instruct the theory to students in efficient way and their experience will contribute to better teaching. Different audio visual aids and other advancements are used for teaching. Students are taught by conducting seminar classes while the knowledge in recent advancements are taught by attending seminars, symposiums, workshop, role plays, debates etc

Students are able to show their talent in all field with study also.

St. Xaviers College, Ranchi, was started by the Ranchi Jesuit Society, on July 3, 1944. Ever since 1889 and pre-independece era, when many secondary schools were started in Ranchi, the Society felt the need of starting a College. Those days, for higher education, students had to go to Patna or to Kolkata. But when the college has built in Ranchi many students gets opportunity to get higher study. In Ranchi it is located in Sarjana Chouk, Purlia Road, Now it is become Autonomous college. In Ranchi it is first autonomous college. This college has a great infrastructure, the class room is very big with good lightining and also there is a large black board. The projector is also available. Depending upon the subject the projector is use. There is friendly relationship with professiors and the student. But when student do mistakes then the proffessior give advice and sometime scold also.
Vocational courses are also available in this college such as mass com, advertising sales promotion and sales management, BBA etc. the tallented students get chance to be selected in campus salection. As campus selection is also taking place. The Seminars, Workshops is also goes on every months where the experts and experience persons share theit views about corporate world and their experiences.
