Kishkintha Theme Park, Chennai Review

When it was started way back in the 1995, Kishkintha, is considered to be the first theme park in Chennai. Though there was VGP Universal Kingdom with rides, they were quite conventional rides. This was started by Navodaya Mass Entertainment, which produced Indias first ever 3D film, My Dear Kuttichattan. Located close to Tambaram, this place have become a landmark in Tambaram. There are buses plied from Tambaram Railway Station to Kishkintha at certain timings. The area where Kishkintha was created was a very normal area which was made into beautiful landscapes and areas of greenery. The entire area is visible as a patch of greenery from the bye pass road and also from the GST road bridge.

We first visited Kishkintha when it was started in 1995. At that time, there were only 6 rides and it took us just 3 hours to finish off all the rides. The rides were free and one can go for n number of times. Just the entrance was collected. But now they have packages and some rides comes for free in those packages and some are charged. They just mark a tick with different coloured felt pens so that all the rides can be played only once. We all enjoyed their flume ride and white water ride and those rides are still a great hit. The white water ride takes through some historic constructions, stones and pillars.

The rides that thrill the people are Tora-Tora (named Tora Bora), cup and saucer, bumber cars, space shuttle. Some of the very thrilling rides are ko-kart, water scooter and the mountain slide(sliding down in huge slides in foam boats and sheets). They have a swimming pool along with wave pool and water valcano(the first of its kind in Asia). The water valcano is said to erupt 5 lakh tons of water for 5 seconds and it is a real cool sight to view that eruption.

The best and most sought after attraction in this theme park is the Chennai Kuttralam. The water scarcity is too much in Chennai especially during summer. Still Kishkintha manages to have water for their Chennai Kutralam and wave pool and water valcano just because of their huge rain water harvesting program.

Chennai Kutralam - is a mini artificial water fall, which have two levels. People can stand underneath it or just climb down the stairs to go to the next level and stand in the less forceful water fall. The Chennai Kutralam have specific timings. They operate for a time slot of 40 mins and one have to keep check of the time if they want to enjoy Chennai Kutralam.

There is a special play area for kids with kids car and coin operated machines. Kids alone are allowed to play in the rides specially made for them, but still, kids prefer the rides that are for the adults rather than their special ones.

The other entertainment, worth noting and worth visiting is the Thrillarium. You are asked to fasten your handles after sitting in a regular chair and the screen shows a ride through a mine. The seat moves according to the moving mine car, bumps when the car bumps, jumps when the car jumps and it is a real great thrilling experience.

Their inhouse mini theatre shows mini film of 10 mins, which are 3D films.

There is a huge open air theatre and a lawn just near the entrance of the park where Kiskinthas special events take place. Heard that they also provide that open air theatre for marriage recptions and also for concerts too. There is a multicuisine restaurant too that serves all kinds of food and also snacks. Some of them are a bit costly than outside though.

They have a very big parking lot. Some of the rides need a lot of maintenance and many that are near water front have started rusting. So it is better if those things are taken care of at the earliest.
