I heard a lot about traditional Bengali dishes at Aheli and after extensive effort, I managed to convince my family to have dinner at Aheli restaurant at Peerless Inn.

As we entered, it was looking like we have came to the core of Bengal and the environment was surrounded by Bengali essence. The decor was traditional and the portrait of Rabindra Nath Tagore was looking lively.

The bearer came with a warm smile giving menu and straight way I went on the dishes of prawn (chingri maach), being my favorite. I ordered malai chingri and ilish fish as my husband is not very fond of Chingri, his bad luck with plain rice and later we ordered sorse maach, fish with mustard flavor.

Order came with less than expected time, the reason may be that it was a working day. Out of all the dishes malai chingri was really awesome and I can linger its taste whenever I remember. Ilish was also made purely in bengali style wrapped in banana leaf, it was just like having dinner in an old traditional bengali family.

The ambiance was cool and it was just like a five star Bengal. We had satisfying dinner, to wash the hand hot water bowl was given but it could not abolish the fragrance of fishes from our hands.

The price was something which was not at all of our likings, it was a bit on higher side than our expectation, though paying by credit card doesnt make you feel at least at that time.

Total bill came out to be about 770 Rs to 800 Rs. I dont remember the exact amount.

I will certainly recommend to visit this place once, at least to those who want the real taste of chingri. The most recommended dishes are chingri malai (prawn malai), posto chingri ( Prawn with poppy seeds) and ilish maacher paturi ( Hilsa fish wrapped in banana leaf)
