Yes,lots of people will tell you that when you visit Hyderabad you must visit Ramoji Film City. They will all rave about it and exclaim what a wonderful time they had. Yes, I agree with that too. However, I would like to add that I personally think it is worth only a one-time visit. Why, you may well ask. Simple: the cost is exhorbitant! At 400/- per person and an additional 110/- for the buffet lunch, the price is steep. The other package of 950/- includes travelling around in an a/c van instead of the red open bus that looks like London buses and a buffet that costs 327/- per person. Simply not worth it in my opinion.

There is a filmy opening ceremony when the false ramparts of a false fort open and we follow the dancers inside where they continuedd to dance. Since Dusshera was round the corner, the dance theme was on all the Devis in the Hindu pantheon and included a short garba stint as well. It was too long for enjoyment but had to be endured as you were not allowed to explore the place. Only after it ended, the buses started out to show us all the sets built there along with gardens and fountains the trip itself is barely half an hour.

There is a juggling show, a variety show, a scary cave, another cave where we drive past puppets representing famous scenes like from the film Lagaan, and a wild western show with lots of fighting and shooting. In an open quadrangle, there are also dances set to western pop songs. By the time we were through being entertained, it was evening. Just outside the main area are a giant wheel, a swinging ship etc which one sees in amusement parks. Ticket gives one 5 free rides except there aren’t five rides out there!

The sets spread around the vast expanse of Ramoji Film City include replicas of Jaipur and other cities, as also foreign locales like Disneyland. Elaborate film sets showcase various buildings and stuctures typically used in a film shoot: hospital, divorce court, marriage hall, airport, railway station, etc.

All in all, it is good time-pass for both adults & kids but as I said - it is worth for strictly a one-time visit.
