About Shorter College Shorter College is a Christian liberal arts college, located in Rome, Georgia. The college was founded in 1873 as a women's college, the Cherokee Baptist Female College. It was renamed in 1877 to Shorter Female College because of the financial contributions of Alfred and Martha Shorter. In the 1950s, the college became co-educational
