About Avinashilingam University for Women Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women was established by the great patriot and educationist Dr.T.S.Avinashilingam under the auspices of the Avinashilingam Education Trust in 1957 with 45 students. The Government of India declared Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women as a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act in June 1988. The college has been renamed as Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for women has completed fifteen years as a University Dr. K. Kulandaivel has assumed chancellorship. He is a Gandhian and an academician, associated closely with the Founder-President. The institute functions under seven Faculties, namely, Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education, Business Administration, Engineering and Community Education and Entrepreneurship Development, each faculty functioning under its respective Dean.
