Bastar Vishwavidyalaya is also known as Basta University. It was established on 02 September 2008 by an amendment to the Chhattisgarh Vishwavidyalaya adhiniyam (Act) no. 22 of 1973. The university was established as a State University. It is wholly financed by the Governmnt of Chhattisgarh.
The university envisions to disseminate and impart instructions and advanced research facilities through integrated courses in humanities and science, promoting inter disciplinary studies and research in the university and to affiliate colleges recognised by the university to be affiliated to the Bastar Revenue Division.

The Vice Chancellor of the college is Prof. N.D.R. Chandra and the Registrar is Dr. Sharad Nema.
