Introduction and History Kharghar is a well-developed town in Navi Mumbai area. To decongest Mumbai of its ever-increasing population, in 1971, the Govt of Maharashtra enacted a new public sector undertaking named CIDCO (City and Industrial Development orporation). CIDCO was given a task of developing 14 townships (Airoli, Ghansoli, Kopar Khairane, Vashi, Sanpada, Nerul, CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Kalamboli, Kamothe, New Panvel, Dronagiri, Ulwe, Pushpak) in Navi Mumbai area which was earmarked out of Thane and Raigad districts.
