This is the largest district in area in Andhra Pradesh. One Guinness Book world record located in Kadiri area where "Timmamma Marri manu" is spread over more than 7 acres of land. Two important rivers flowing in Anantapuramu districts are Penna and Chitravati. It is well worshiped Puttaparthi Sri Sathya Sai Baba ashram comes under Anantapuramu District. Lepakshi temple located in Hindupur, and Lakshmi Narasimha temple in Kadiri are most ancient temples in Anantapuramu. Dharmavaram famous for Pattu sarees comes under the same district. Agriculture in this district mainly depends on rains.

3)Lepakshi Temple (is renowned as the repository of the best mural paintings of the Vijayanagar Kings. Lepakshi consists of three shrines dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and 'Virabhadra'). The temple is decorated with superbly sculptured pillars on which are carved life-size representations of musicians and dancers in various poses displaying spirit and vigour. |Anantapur District is one of the 23 districts in the state of andhra pradesh in India with Anantapur town as the adminstrative headquarters of the district. This Anatapur district was formed from the erstwhile district of Bellary in 1882. This is the largest district in the state of Andhra Pradesh. |
About Anantapur District
The District is bounded on the southeast by Chittoor District, on the north by Kurnool District, on the southwest and west by Karnataka state and on the east by Kadapa District and belongs to the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The northern and central regions are a high plateau with large granite rocks or low hill ranges here and there. the southern part is more hilly comparatively, about 2ft above the mean sea level.
Penna, Chithravathi, Vedavathi, Papagni, Swarnamuki, and Thadakaleru are the six rivers flowing through the district and the district receives an average annual rainfall of 381mm only. Since there isn't much rain the state is in the one most backward provinces list of the state
The distric has a population of 3,640,478 and 56.69% as literacy rate less than the average national rate 0of 59.5%. Telugu is the main language spoken here in the district. There are 866 villages here in this district.
Economy of the Anantapur District.
The main Industry of the people is Agriculture, there aren't many industries. Prominent crops include groundnut, rice, cotton, sesame, maize, chillies and sugarcane and the industries in the district are Silk trade, limestone quarrying, iron and diamond mining. Anantapur, Hindupur, Penukonda, Guntakal, Tadpatri, Kadiri, Dharmavaram, Uravakonda, Rayadurg and Kalyandurg are the major towns in the district and other places of interst are Alur, Gooty,Kanampalli, Lepakshi, Pamidi, Puttaparthi, Konakondla, Kottacheruvu and Hemavati.
Famous places in the Anatapur district
Tadpatri is third largest city in the Anatapur district and you can visit 2 historical temples there namely Bugga Rama Lingeswara Temple and Chintala Venkata Ramana Temple. Tadpatri is also a well known as an Industrial town of Anantapur district. More than 600 Slab units, Ultratech cement company, Penna cement company and SJK Steel plant are located in the district.
Puttaparthi, the famous abode known as Shanthi Nilayam, is the home town of Sri Saibaba, which is located at about 80 kms from the town of ananatapur and 40kms from Dharmavaram in the district.
