Yanam is located in the Godavari delta of the state of Andhra Pradesh. This is one of the four french establishments of the French and later handed over to the Government 0f India.
Now it is one of the four members of the Pondicherry Union territory.

This is situated just in a place where the rivers Coringa and Gauthami Godavari meet and is bounded on the east and south by these rivers. Area of Yanam is 30 sq km and has a population of 31,362 as per 2001 census details.

Yanam consists of 8 villages namely, Kanakalapeta, Mettakur, Kurasampeta, Farampeta, Dariyalathippa, Dommeti Peta, Guireyampeta and Savithri Nagar.
Yanam lies actually by the side of the Gauthami River and there is a road connecting all the villages. It is a river bank road called Canal Ferry Road and the road ends with Savithri Bagar as the river joins the sea at that place.

There is a new bridge built over there which can carry about 15 tonnes of traffic and people use this to go across to Kakinada, which is the nearest town.

Tourist spots:

Draksharamam is a famous Shiva temple here and is one of the Jyothirlingas in India. The presiding deity is called Bheemeswara Swamy, and is about 14 ft tall. There is Manikyambika devi temple situated in the same campus and is supposed to be one of the "Ashtadasa Peethams". This temple has a famous Shakthi Chakra and the deity Parvathi is seen sitting on this Chakra. This temple is situated at about 16 kms from Yanam and frequent Bus transport is available, connecting both yanam and draksharamam.
There is another well known temple, Lord Satyanarayana Swamy's temple, is located in Annavaram, about 80 kms from Yanam.
Padagaya Temple in Pithapuram is one of the oldest temples of India and is also known as Second Kashi. The deity here is called "Kukkuteswara Swamy" and his consort Parvathi as "RajaRajeswari".

How to Reach:

By Road Yanam is connected to almost all the cities of Andhra Pradesh and also to Chennai. Chennai is the closest metro to Yanam and it is just 3 1/2 hours drive by car.
The nearest Railway station is Kakinada about 26 kms . away. The station is well connected to all the major towns and cities and also Chennai.
