About Shri Rammurti Smarak College of Engineering & Technology
Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering & Technology was founded in 1996 by the Shri Ram Murti Smarak (SRMS) Trust. The trust has been instrumental in promoting the spread of education and research in fields such as engineering, management and medicine. It has set up a number of institutions related to the above fields in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The trust was formed in the fond memory of Late Ram Murti Ji, who was a parliamentarian and an ex-minister from U.P. The college located in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh is a self-financed one. It is affiliated with the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and is amongst the most respectable technical colleges in the region.
SRMS College offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Undergraduate courses are offered in the field of technology and pharmacy, whereas, postgraduate courses are available for technology, pharmacy, business administration and computer applications.
Infrastructure & facilities The college campus is spread across 35 acres of land. It is equipped with lush green lawns, vast playgrounds, a gymnasium, a squash court and multi-purpose halls. As the college is expanding its services, the infrastructure is being developed further in a planned and aesthetic way. Apart from providing quality education to its students, the college focuses on inculcating values and ethics into them. Equal emphasis is laid on practical training.
Amongst the departments in this college are CSE, Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Mechanical, IT, pharmacy, basic sciences, mathematics besides the ones on business education and computer application. The college has a central library, besides eight other departmental libraries. There is a state of the art computer centre, many laboratories and six air-conditioned seminar halls equipped with the latest multimedia equipment and a seating capacity of 200 each.
The college has numerous facilities for outdoor and indoor sports. Various sporting events, including, an inter-college meet ‘AAMOD', are organised from time to time. Among the other facilities available at this college are gymnasium, cafeteria, college transport, bank, temple, and so on. The college has a club culture with clubs for robotics, aeronautics, design, dramatics, singing, dance, sports, media and many more. Various extracurricular and co-curricular events are organised by these clubs at regular intervals.
The college is a residential one with separate hostel facilities for girls and boys. Hostel stay is compulsory for all students, except for those who are from Bareilly itself. The rooms are well-furnished and based on the students choice they can opt for rooms with single, double or triple accommodation. The hostels have features like separate messes, 24-hour power back-up, hot water facility, indoor games, common rooms, dispensary, library, guest house for visiting parents and adequate security. Out of the four hostels, two are for boys, one for the girls and one for postgraduate students. Only vegetarian food is served at the messes.
Awards & recognition Over the years, the college has won numerous awards for academic excellence and the quality of its programmes. It has won recognition from various institutions and industries in India. It is amongst the most well-recognised technical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Its MBA programs are amongst the best in the state.
Admissions Admissions for the undergraduate engineering courses at this college are done based on the performance of the applicants in the UPSEE or JEE Main exam. However, 15% of the seats are allocated based on the 10+2 marks of the students. Empty or lapsed seats, if any, are also allocated on a similar basis. Candidates with 60% or more marks in PCM are only eligible to apply. Diploma students who have passed their courses with at least 60% marks in any of the branches of engineering can seek admission in the 2nd year of the B.Tech courses.
Admission to pharmacy courses is based on the candidates' UPSEE ranking. Admission to the various postgraduate courses is also based on the various competitive exams conducted at the state as well as national level, details of which are given on the college website. - Dhruv
