About St.Teresa's College
St. Teresa's College is an autonomous college and is named after St. Teresa of Avila. She started St. Teresa's School in the year 1887 and with her vision, this college was started in the year 1925. It was the first women college in Cochin at that time. Initially, it got affiliated to Madras University offering courses in the field of history. Then in 1957-58, it got affiliated to the Travancore University, currently known as Kerala University. N.S.S. was started in 1969 and the UGC sponsored book bank was started in 1971 in the college. Gradually the college developed different services like hostels and departments and then became an autonomous college in 2014. It got accredited with ‘A' grade by NAAC 3 times in a row.
FacilitiesThe college has all the facilities to support smart learning by students. The campus is in the centre of the Kochi city and is divided into 3 parts - Arts Block, Science Block and New Central Block. All these blocks are at a distance of half a kilometer from each other and the New Central Block is at the centre of Arts and Science Blocks.
The infrastructure of the college includes smart classrooms equipped with boards and projectors as per the requirement of the department.
Other facilities include a library which started in 1925 and now having an excellent collection of books. It is given the name “Mother Veronica Library" and has various blocks like a Stock room with lending section, Research Wing, General Reference Section, Archive, Post Graduate Section, Reprography corner, Audio Visual room with Video conferencing facility, etc. Apart from normal text and reference books, it also has a great collection of journals and magazines. The library is open from 8 AM till 6 PM on all working days.
The Media Production lab is a unique feature of the college providing modern facilities to students for learning and creating different products like short films, audio messages, commercial advertisements, videos, etc.
An E-Learning centre and a seminar hall are also there in the college. E-Learning is basically a language lab that supports the students in enhancing their vocabulary and pronunciation.
The college also has two auditoriums to be used for various functions. One of them is huge with more than 2000 sitting capacity. This one is also having all the arrangements to facilitate audio-visual programs. Another one is smaller with 1000 seats and is used for conducting different cultural programs and fests.
A gym with all the advanced equipment is available on the campus for students as well as staff.
Accommodation and foodHostels for women are there to provide safe accommodation to the girls near the college. There are 3 hostels - 2 in Science block and 1 in the main block. Students are supposed to submit the application for accommodation at the time of admission itself. To fulfil the spiritual needs of the students, there are 2 chapels on the campus, one in Arts block and another one in the Science block.
A canteen is there to serve a variety of food prepared with cleanliness at very reasonable rates. - Padmini
