About Catholicate College
A college established in 1952 under Malankara Orthadox Church. The college is offering 13 post graduate corses and 11 under graduate courses. The departments are Malayalam, English, Hindi, Syriac, Economics, Commerce, History, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Physical Education.
Infrastructure The college has excellent infrastructure with all the required facilities. There are separate blocks in the building for various departments, including a gym, library, laboratories, a conference hall, etc. There is a Botanical garden on the campus with a refreshment stall, a Videographic center, and an instrumentation center for students and stcff. The Dr. J Alexander Memorial Block of the college has a post office, a Co-Operative store, a canteen, and CICS (Catholic Institute of Computer Studies). The Gregorian Conference Hall is in the Gregorian Block with the ladies Retiring hall. The P.C. John Pavilion is having basketball and volleyball courts for students. Apart from these, there are few more blocks with other labs and departments.
FacilitiesThe College offers all the facilities required to deliver effective learning. The library of the college is among the top libraries of Kerala and was established in the year 1952. It is having an excellent collection of books for different departments and subjects. It is occupying around 8000 square feet of area and can accommodate 80 students at a time. Apart from the collection of various books including textbooks and reference books, it also has subscriptions to more than 500 magazines and journals. Along with the central library, there are 4 separate departmental libraries in the Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biochemistry departments.
The Zoology Department of the college has a museum having preserved specimens for study purposes.
For the physical growth of the students, the college has separate courts for volleyball, basketball, and football on the campus. A stadium is also available on the football ground.
The college has various coaching centers for different courses belonging to different departments. The Rutronix Computer Centre offers courses related to computer application and accountancy, while the Keltron study center is for computerized instrumentation and networking. The Catholic Institute of Management Studies offers B.Com. with specialization in Computer Application for women only. Apart from these centers, coaching for Bank recruitment exam, NET/SET exams, and civil services are also available.
There are three separate computer centers on the campus- The Mar Clemis Computer Centre is dedicated to the courses related to Computer application and is associated with the Department of Commerce and Tourism. The Catholic Institute of Computer Studies is for the general use of students and staff. It is also used for animation courses. The Prof. N.G.Kunjachan Memorial Computer Center is UGC sponsored and is associated with the Physics departments of the college.
The college also has residential facilities with three hostels. The Mar Daniel Philoxenous Hostel and Mar Philipose Eusebian Hostel are for Women with the capacity to accommodate 150 and 100 students respectively, while the E John Philipos Memorial Hostel is for men and can accommodate 200 students at a time.
Admission procedure The admission process is different for students belonging to different categories. Students interested in admissions in U.G or P.G. courses in general or SC/ST quota need to upload their application online at the Centralized Allotment Process of M.G. University. The students from Management quota can submit their applications in the management office and the students from Community/sports or cultural quote need to submit their application in the college office.
Candidates need to submit a migration certificate, TC, Conduct Certificate, SSLC book, higher secondary board pass certificates, and other related certificates for admission. A certificate from the Orthodox Church counter is required for admissions under the community quota. Final admission can be confirmed only after fee payments.
