About Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College was started in the year 1990 as a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It is located in Dwarka (new campus) and is recognized under 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act. The college is funded by the Government of NCT of Delhi and is offering 9 undergraduate courses in various specializations along with many Add-on courses.
InfrastructureThe whole campus of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College is occupying an area of around 7.7 acres with 3 main buildings. These 3 buildings are for academics, utility, and hostel. The buildings are very modern in terms of design and facilities. There is a solar power generation system set on the roof of the buildings and the solar power heaters are also on the roof of the hostels for hot water supply in the hostels. The campus also has a water recycling plant, RO plant for drinking water, and generators with 1000KW capacity for power backup. Then there is a harvesting pit to store and utilize the rainwater. The campus also has a sufficient parking facility for staff and students.
FacilitiesThe library is fully computerized with more than 45000 books, magazines, reference books, newspapers, etc. It started in the year 1990 with around 2200 books and now has become an important part of the learning process in the campus. It is occupying 2550 square meters of space and is having separate sections on 3 floors. There is a Stack area and Circulation Counter on the 3rd floor, a Reference Collection with faculty reading hall and E-resource section on the 4th floor, and a Periodical/Magazine Display along with the Reading hall is on the 5th floor of the building. Students can use this facility on all the working days from 9.00 A.M. till 5.00 P.M. and during exams, it remains open till 8.00 P.M.
Another important place for any academic institute is laboratories. The college is having 21 labs for different subjects equipped with advanced instruments and machinery as per the requirement of the subjects. All the science departments of the college are also having their own research labs to support research work.
There is a fully air-conditioned auditorium that can accommodate around 400 people at a time. It is also equipped with advanced audio-visual facilities along with an attractive stage. It is used for conferences, seminars, guest lectures, and other cultural activities.
There is a big cafeteria in the campus. It is also air-conditioned and can sit around 100 people. Students get hygienic food at very reasonable rates in the canteen.
There is a separate computer center that offers computer-related training. It is air-conditioned and can accommodate 200 candidates at a time. The infrastructure at the computer center is an advanced one with servers, high-speed fibre connectivity, Wi-Fi, and desktops.
The college has a gym with various workout equipment. It has a big sports complex with squash and badminton courts. Facilities for many other indoor games are also provided.
A branch of OBC bank is there on the campus. An ATM and passbook printing facility are also available on the campus near the library.
ActivitiesThe college is having many functional clubs to support various individual interests of the students. These include Robotics Club, Eco Club, Adventure Club, Photography Club, Fin S Club, MUN Club, and Yavanika – Dramatics Club. The college also has an active NSS that organizes various social activities and camps.
Hostel facilityFor accommodation, the college has 2 hostels, one for girls and another for boys. Both the hostels are having 45 rooms furnished with all basic necessities. Each room is having an attached washroom, and each floor has a common washroom for emergency purposes. A mess is available in both the hostels for the residents but day scholars, staff members, and guests can also avail this facility against payment. The hostels are having internet facility for the entire day. A fully air-conditioned recreation room is there in each hostel. It also has some indoor game facilities, newspapers and magazines. The hostels also have a first-aid facility, laundry services against payment and a stationary shop.
