About Bankura Christian College
On the 29th day of June, 1903 the Wesleyan Mission College was established in Bankura bringing in its wake a new era of emancipation. Bankura Christian College was established under the aegis of the founder Principal Rev. J. Mitchell. In 1907 the first college in the district of Bankura was granted approval by the Calcutta University to teach Intermediate Arts (I.A.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) curriculam.
Bankura Christian College is the top-most college of the Bankura District of West Bengal. The college started its journey on 29th June, 1903 under the guidance of Reverend John Mitchell, the Founder-Principal. The college was financed by the Wesleyan Methodists. The college was approved by the University of Calcutta in the year 1907. Initially, I.A and B.A were taught in this college. In 1912, I.Sc. was introduced. Honours courses in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics were introduced in 1922. In 1961, the college was affiliated to the Barddhaman University. Now, the college is affiliated to the Bankura University.
Over the years, the eminence and fame of the college have been established. Most modern facilities are available to the students of this college. The infrastructure is awe-inspiring. Some of the illustrious alumnus of the college are literary critic E.J. Thompson, eminent physicists Sisir Kumar Mitra, Abalakanta Choudhury, Sampa Das, eminent chemists like Purnendu Dasgupta, Jenkins Garrett, Asit Kumar Chakraborti, historian Chandran Devanasen, eminent linguists like Sukumar Sen, Khudiram Das, eminent writers like Sajanikanta Das, Manik Bandyopadhyay and many others. The college is presently under the management of the Diocese of Durgapur. It has been accredited ‘'A'' by NAAC in 2013.

In addition, classes of Netaji Subhas Open University are held in the college.
Available infrastructureLibrary: The Central Library covers an area of 2200 sq. feet with 70,000 books. The library subscribes to 31 academic journals. It is fully computerized. In addition, every department has separate departmental library.
Classrooms: Classrooms are spacious, well-ventilated and have the facilities of smart-boards and projectors.
Hostel: The college has two hostels for boys and two hostels for girls.
Observatory: The Physics Department has an observatory with 12'' Truss Tube Dobsonian reflecting telescope with 305 mm aperture with a focal length of 1500 mm and other equipment. Students for local schools are also regularly invited for observation of celestial bodies and celestial phenomena.
Canteen: The college has very spacious and well-maintained canteens (separate canteens for students and staff) which provide hygienic food items.
Laboratories: The college has fully equipped physics, chemistry and computer laboratories catering to the needs of students and researchers.
Internet facilities: Free broadband wi-fi facilities are available in the college campus.
Placement Centre: The college has opened a placement centre and counseling centre for the students.
Medical plants garden and eco-garden: There is a medical plants garden and eco-garden in the college campus.
Journals: Two peer-reviewed journals and Wesleyan Journal of Research and Appropriations are regularly published. College magazine is published every year.
NCC and NSS: The students of the college can join NCC and NSS.
