About Bidhannagar College
The Bidhannagar College, Government of West Bengal, had a humble beginning with 52 students on June 25, 1984 in a school building at 142 BF Block, Salt Lake City, Kolkata - 700064. But from its inception the College was modelled as a centre of academic excellence. Affiliated to the University of Calcutta as an under-graduate college, it has been admitting Honours students only. Students admitted in 2008 academic session and onwards will be registered in West Bengal State University, Barasat, North 24 Parganas.The College started functioning with the following Science Honours subjects - Physics, Chemistry
FacilitiesThere is a central library which houses about 55000 books including reference books. It also has a large number of periodicals and journals for the use of the students. There is one reading room where 50 students can sit and study at a time.
Under National Service Scheme (NSS), there is one unit of NSS functional in the college, and students, teachers, and other volunteers from the staff participate in it. The students visit the adjoining areas of the college and inculcate habits of observing cleanliness and hygiene in the people. The students demonstrate it by cleaning the areas and educating people about the importance of these things in our lives. Under NSS other activities like medical camps, awareness programmes etc are also held from time to time.
The College imparts compulsory computer training at a very notional fee through the study centre of the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIEIT), Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India, approved by AICTE, located in the college premises.
College is having good games and sports facilities and also a gymnasium for the students to exercise and remain fit.
A spacious canteen is made available on the college campus for the students. It is serving snacks, meals, and other eatables at affordable prices.
AdmissionsStudents who have passed their HSC or equivalent exams are eligible to apply for the UG general courses leading to BA/BSc degrees.
The students who want to take admission in the UG honours courses should have - A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in their HSC and 45% marks in the relevant subject or 55% marks in the related subject or 50% marks in aggregate even if the student did not study the relevant subject in HSC.
The reserved category candidates, aspiring to take admission in honours courses, should have a minimum of 40% in aggregate and 40% in the related subject in their HSC exam.
A candidate is allowed to apply for a maximum of 3 honours courses of his choice. The candidate interested in taking admission in the relevant UG/PG course can contact the college by filling the online contact form available on the college website. Admissions are done online strictly based on merit as per the guidelines of West Bengal State University. When admissions are open, the online application form would be available on the college website and the same is to be filled and submitted online along with scanned copies of all the relevant documents like candidate photograph, HSC mark sheet, TC and character certificate from the earlier institute, Aadhar card etc. Once the candidate's name appears in the merit list for admissions then he has to produce the original certificates and documents in the college for document verification after which only the admission would be confirmed. - Umesh
