About Banana Research Station, Kannara
The Banana Research Station was started in 1963 occupying around 17.3 hectares of land in Marakkal. Initially, it started as a Department of Agriculture with an aim to conduct research on Pineapple and Banana. In 1970, it got an ICAR related Fruit Improvement Project. It came under the management of Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) in 1972 and in 1974, the Pineapple Research center was shifted to Vellanikkara.
