About the collegeIt is one of the oldest colleges in India. It started as a Middle-school in the year 1857 and was promoted as a High-school in 1868. It became a fully fledged college in the year 1879. Rajah of Vizianagaram Dr. Pusapati Vijayarama Gajapati Raju, father of the present Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapati Raju was the founder of this great institution. Dr.P V G Raju, a staunch supporter and loyalist of Congress and the Nehru family served as Member of Parliament for eight consecutive terms and contributed his best for the promotion of education and welfare of the people of the region.
Courses offered and facilitiesThe institution was recognized by U.G.C. and was given autonomous status in 1987. The College is accredited with NAAC – “B" grade in March, 2009. The courses offered in this college include 15 Undergraduate courses in B.A., B.Com and B.Sc. with varied subjects like Geology, Agriculture, Statistics, Social Work, H.R.M. and B.B.M and also Post Graduate courses in M.Sc in Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry.The college has good infrastructure with well established laboratories, mini-cricket stadium, vast play ground, students attached hostel with more than 600 inmates, N.C.C. and N.S.S. ( for both boys and girls).
Thus it has a place in the pages of educational institutions as a ‘Premier Institution of Higher Education' in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
