About Shri Durgaprasad Saraf Autonomous College
Shree Durga Prasad Saraf College of Arts & Applied Sciences is popularly known as S D S Degree College (Autonomous) which is monitored by Shree Ram Vidyapeeth.Shreeram Vidyapeeth, Shreeramnagar (Garividi) was established by the management of FACOR to bring education to the doorstep of even remote villages. Thus the SDS College under their supervision strives for maintaining the standards of education and to bring excellence within the reach of rural poor through innovative teaching and new technologies.
This Degree College is located at ShreeRamnagar which is 28 K.M away from Vizianagaram town (a district Headquarter of Vizianagaram District) of Andhra Pradesh. Shreeramnagar is famous for a well known factory by name Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited (FACOR) instituted by Mumbai based business man Seth Durga Prasad Saraf. He was instrumental for the development of this area by providing accommodation, health facilities, Education and other infrastructure. As a part of this modernisation programme he founded Shreeram Vidyapeeth, Shreeram Nagar, Vizianagaram (dist) aimed at the development of education.
Shree Durga Prasad Saraf College of Arts & Applied Sciences was established in the year 1975 by Seth Shriman Durga Prasad Saraf. The courses were aimed at recruiting some meritorious students to FACOR and its allied establishments through campus interview and thus the SDS College was the first in the country to start job oriented courses in applied sciences like Applied Chemistry, Mineral Beneficiation and Material Handling in Degree courses. This Degree course was considered next to Engineering and getting a seat was difficult in this college for over a period.
The courses offered include B.Sc, B.com and B.A with various specialisations.
Within a short span of 12 years of establishment, the college was approved as an autonomous college under the aegis of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.
