It is one of the ancient technical institute.It offers courses in Electrical Engineering. The Oldest Technical Institute In Calcutta (Kolkata) Established In 1927. Initially It Was Conducting Courses As Follows:-
1) Diploma In Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
By Board Of Apprenticeship Training, Govt. Of West Bengal. (Duration: 4 Years)
2) National Certificate Course In Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Govt. Of India. (Duration: 5 Years).
3) Shipwright Course (Duration: 2 Years).
4) Electrical Supervisory Course.
5) Amie (Section-A) Coaching.
This Institute Produced Many Marine Engineers And Shipwights In Addition To Mechanical & Electrical Engineers Who Were / Are Well Placed In The Industries. I Am Also A Product Of The Calcutta Technical School. I Passed Higher Secondary (Sc) From 'Chetla Boys' High School', Kolkata; Passed Bsc From 'University Of Calcutta'; Passed Diploma In Mechanical & Electrical Engineering (Boat) And Shipwright From 'The Calcutta Technical School'; Passed Amie (Mechanical Engineering) From 'The Institution Of Engineers (India)'. I Served With 'Bhabha Atomic Research Centre' & 'Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Limited'. Presently I Am With 'Adnoc', Uae. The Role Of 'Cts' Is Very Important In My Life Because My Strong Foundation Was Made By The Elite Institute.
Calcutta Technical School (popularly known as CTC) is an extremely reputed polytechnic located in Kolkata (earlier Calcutta). It was established in the year 1927 and is the oldest technical school of the country. It is affiliated to West Bengal Council of Technical Education (WBCTE). The polytechnic is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Courses offered The courses offered by the CTC and the maximum intake in each course are indicated below:-
(a) Mechanical Engineering : 63
(b) Electrical Engineering: 63
(c) Computer Science and Technology: 63
(d) Civil Engineering: 33
In addition to the above, CTC offers various other courses like Diploma in Marine Engineering (4 Years), Shipwright course, Electrical Supervisory course and evening coaching for AMIE (Sections A & B). The polytechnic has recently started 2 year diploma in Pharmacy course.
Admission procedure Admission to all the three year Diploma courses in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Technology and Civil engineering are done through JEXPO examination conducted by WBCTE every year. Admission in two year Diploma in Pharmacy is based on marks obtained in X+II examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Other facilities CTC has modern facilities of Laboratory, Computer Laboratory, Model display Room, Library and Canteen within the premises. CTC has its own colours (Red with yellow borders).
Placement Placement cell of CTC has been functioning extremely well. Every year, students of this Institute are recruited by various public sector and private sector companies and also by various merchant navy shipping companies. The ex-students of this Institute are now spread all over India and also in many foreign countries. They also help in the recruitment process of present students. L&T, Infosys, Philips, Wipro, Balaji Group, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, etc. are some of the major recruiters in recent years.
