About college:
VSSUT,Burla (Formerly University College of Engineering, Burla) is the oldest and premier Engineering College of Orissa, was a constituent College of Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela. It has produced more than 10,000 graduate engineers and 2000 Postgraduates in different fields of Engineering and Technology.
The college was founded on the 12th August, 1956 under Utkal University. In January 1967, the management of the college was handed over to Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela.
The college is located at the foot of the world famous Hirakud Dam amidst beautiful surroundings of lakes and mountains. Burla is well connected to Bhubaneshwar and Kolkata with roads and railways. Sambalpur to Burla is 10 kms both by road and rail. Nearest station is Hirakud which is only 2 km away from the college.
Initially, the college offered degree courses in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering disciplines.
In 1972, degree courses in Electronics and Tele-Communication Engineering was introduced.
Post-Graduate courses in various specializations started in Civil and Electrical Engineering in 1969.
At present, the college offers B.Tech in 7 streams and P.G. Courses in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics and Tele-Communication Engineering.
The college also offers a 3-years Masters Degree course in Computer Application (MCA) since 1993.
Admission of students to the 1st year B.Tech, MCA & 3rd sem. B.Tech. (Lateral Entry of Diploma Holders) are made through the Joint Engineering Examination (OJEE) for the state of Orissa.
Infrastructure:
College has 133.6 Acres of used land,368.77 acres of land for extension.
College has well organized college building (251633 sq-ft) with facilities of gymnasium, canteen, guest house and also includes SBI building, Athletic building, library and community centers.
It has 6 hostels.
4 of them are boys hostel (East, West, North and South) and 2 are girls hostel( new hostel, ladies hostel).
3 more hostels are under construction and about to complete.
College has also staff quarters spread in around 2, 50,000 sq.ft.
