About A.W.H. Special College
AWH Special College is located in Kallai town in Calicut (Kozhikode) district in Kerala. It was founded in the year 1996 by the Association for Welfare of the Handicapped (AWH) in Kerala. Incidentally, the Association for Welfare of the Handicapped (AWH) is a well-known charitable voluntary organization and this college under their management offers various UG/PG courses in the areas of physiotherapy, genetics, audiology, and speech-language pathology, Social work, Computer Science, Electronics, and Geology. The college is affiliated with the University of Calicut.
FacilitiesThe college is having a computerized library where all sorts of journals related to the courses are subscribed. It has a collection of about 4200 related books on the subjects being taught here.
There are laboratories equipped with the latest equipment in the college related to the various courses. These are - Physiotherapy laboratory, Audiology laboratory, Genetics laboratory, Computer laboratory, Geology laboratory, and museum.
College is having hostel facilities for the students and the women's hostel is inside the college campus itself.
Admissions- Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT):
Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala or equivalent exam and should also have 50% marks in Biology subject and average 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology together. - Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP):
Candidate should have a minimum of 50% (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) marks in 10+2 examination or equivalent examination conducted by other states and should have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology and any one of the subjects out of Mathematics / Computer Science / Statistics / Electronics / Psychology. - Master of Physiotherapy (MPT):
The candidates should have a pass in Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) Degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. For the above three courses, candidates should apply online and pay the application fee of Rs 600. The selected candidates will be called for an interview cum document verification session. They should produce the following documents in original at that time -
- Transfer Certificate (TC) and Character Certificates from the last institute.
- Two copies of passport size and 1 stamp size photo.
- High School and higher secondary certificate and mark sheet.
- SC, ST, OEC candidates should produce the caste certificate.
- B.Sc. Computer Science:
Candidates having passed in 10+2 with subjects Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are eligible to apply for this. - B.Sc. Geology:
The candidates having passed in 10+2 with subject combinations out of the subjects Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Biology / Geology /Geography are eligible to apply. Those who had Geology as one of the subjects will be given 20 marks extra for admission merit considerations. - B. Sc. Genetics (Complementary courses: Biotechnology and Biochemistry):
Candidates passed in 10+2 or its equivalent with Chemistry and Biology are eligible to apply. B.Sc. Electronics: Candidates having a pass in 10+2 with subjects Mathematics, physics, and chemistry are eligible to apply.- Master of Social Work (MSW):
Candidates having a graduate degree, from any recognized university, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks are eligible for applying for admission.
For the above five courses, the candidates have to apply in prescribed format and prospectus available from the college on payment of Rs 300 in cash in person or Rs 400 by demand draft in the name of "Association for Welfare of the Handicapped" payable at Calicut. The filled-in form has to be deposited or sent to the college and thereafter the candidates would be called for an interview cum document verification session and they have to bring the following documents in original -
- Transfer Certificate (TC) and Character Certificates from the last institute.
- Two copies of passport size and 1 stamp size photo.
- High School and higher secondary certificate and mark sheet.
- SC, ST, OEC candidates should produce the caste certificate.
