About Government College of Engineering
Government College of Engineering (GCE), Tirunelveli was established in the year 1981. It is one of the prestigious institutions in South Tamil Nadu, which caters the educational needs of the students of the south. The main aim of the college is to provide professional education to the students and it also creates quality engineers every year. The college has a placement cell which helps the students to get their dream job offer in top companies.
Academics GCE, Tirunelveli offers UG full time, UG part time and PG full time Engineering courses. The courses that are offered in the college are
UG full time/part time: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering
PG full time: Engineering Design, Power Electronics and Devices, Computer Science and Engineering
Each and every department of the college has an Association and it organizes weekly seminars, guest lectures, aptitude test, quiz programs and group discussions. The association activities help the students to develop the professional knowledge. Each and every department conducts national and state level technical symposiums every year.
Facilities The college campus is wide and is filled with many blocks and buildings. Each department has well equipped laboratories and the college offers practical education to the students in the subject of Engineering. The college has research lab facilities with latest equipment and machines. GCE has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. The hostel is well-furnished & has RO water plant, high speed Wi-fi, TV and the students can also update their knowledge on current affairs through the Newspapers which are supplied daily to the hostel. The college has facilities for indoor games such as chess, shuttle cock, tennis and facilities for outdoor games such as ball badminton, cricket, football, hockey, basketball, volley ball, handball, tennis, kabaddi and kho-kho. The indoor stadium and the special courts available in the college are constructed based on the International standards. The college also has 400 m track for athletic events. GCE also offers transportation facilities for day scholar students and staffs.
Activities The college regularly conducts symposiums, technical events, cultural and innovative events. The college has clubs and associations such as Rotaract club, fine arts association, Alumni association, yoga club and student association. The association and the clubs conducts student related activities and events to improve the personality development of the students. The placement cell of the college conducts placement classes and helps the students in getting placement. The college also conducts sports events and tournaments.
