About Fatima Mata National College
Fatima Mata National College was founded in 1951 by His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Jerome M. Fernandez, the first native Bishop of Quilon, with a view to providing facilities for higher education in the diocese. The college was formally inaugurated on the 29th of December, 1952 by His Eminence Norman Thomas Cardinal Gilory, Papal Legate to India.
Fatima was elevated to the status of a first grade college with the introduction of degree courses in Commerce, Economics and Zoology. This was followed by introduction of courses in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Physical resources were added in the form of Hostels, a sports pavilion, Chemistry block, an auditorium, playgrounds, an NCC office, hockey stadium, language lab, basket ball courts, a botany garden, computer labs and research centres.
Infrastructure The College has excellent infrastructure in terms of spacious classrooms, labs, libraries, etc. The classrooms are advanced and the library is rich with lots of books, encyclopedias, journals, etc. The college also has a cyber center providing internet facilities to all the students. It is located on the 1st floor of the Jubilee building of the main campus having a virtual library also. This virtual library includes various educational websites, documents, and other related content.
There are 2 computer labs in the computer department of the college having more than 100 computers. The Msgr A J Rozario lab is having 50 computers and is used by other departments also. It is located in the PG block. Another lab with 60 computers is also available for the training purpose of the students of computer department only. These computers are advanced with the latest version of software and hardware. Apart from these 2 labs, Mathematics, Botany, Physics, and Zoology departments are also having their own computer labs. The students are allowed to use the computers for study purposes at no additional cost.
There is an advanced research center on the campus to support the research projects of the students. This center is having advanced laboratory instruments and equipment to support the research requirement of the scholars. Students also get expert guides to check on their methodology and procedures.
A well-set media room and a recording room are one of the unique facilities available at Fatima Mata National College. The Media room has an advanced projector and sound system and is used for conducting shows of various documentaries, guest lectures, and educational movies. The recording room/studio is mostly used for the purpose of producing e-content for educational purposes. It has well-set facilities for recording, mixing, editing, and production, and students from all the departments are allowed to use the studio.
The college has 3 spacious auditoriums- Bishop Jerome Hall, Mini Auditorium, and Self-Finance Hall. These auditoriums are used for different purposes including cultural events. Three air-conditioned conference halls are also there in the college for conducting education-related activities like seminars, lectures, and conferences.
To support the physical growth of the students, there is a well-set fitness center in the college. It contains advanced instruments and multi-gym facilities along with the experts. The college also conducts yoga classes to balance the mental and physical growth of the students.
There is a separate area behind the college office for girls. It is “Quadrangle" that fulfills all the requirements of girl students along with security. Boys are not allowed to enter this area.
The food court of the college offers healthy vegetarian and non-vegetarian food to the students. It is the place where the students like to socialize during their free hours and to have healthy discussions.
To attend the medical emergency, there is a first-air room that works in the coordination of Bishop Benziger Hospital, Kollam.
Apart from all the above-mentioned facilities, the college also has a Chapel to fulfill the spiritual needs of students, playgrounds for outdoor games, a Biogas plant, and a beautiful Botanical garden.
