About H.P.T. Arts & R.Y.K.Science College
H.P.T. Arts & R.Y.K.Science College was started in the year 1924 by the Gokhale Education Society (founded in 1918) and has a permanent affiliation with Savitribai Phule Pune University. The college is a unique center of education that supports the overall development of students and provides all the necessary skills and training along with academic studies. Students get to improve their communication skills, writing skills, technical skills, etc through various lectures and training programs. It got its NAAC Reaccreditation with ‘A' grade in 2019 and is also certified by ISO with 9001:2015 certification since the year 2003.
History The history of the college started itself in 1918 with the foundation of the Gokhale Education Society, which started the H.P.T college in Nashik with only Arts subjects at first. It was affiliated to Bombay University. Initially, the institute was having only 90 students and after 24 years of gradual development, the Science section was started in the year 1948 with new enrolment of around 500 students. Although it started as an Arts college, currently it is offering 21 Undergraduate and 17 Post graduate-level courses and also supports the research activities in the fields of Science ad Humanities. It has included many professional and vocational courses in the fields of Computer Science, Mass Media, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Journalism, and many more.
Infrastructure The college has a separate building serving the purpose of the library. 'Bhausaheb Vartak Granthalaya' is the name given to this library having separate Junior and senior sections in it. It is quite big occupying the area of around 8775 Square feet and can be used between 8 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. by the students and staff.
The college also has an auditorium named 'Kusumagraj Hall' occupying 7839 square feet of area. It is basically used for conducting different functions and other indoor activities. Apart from this, a Seminar hall is also there to organize meetings and guest lecturers.
A fully-equipped Gymkhana is the center of attraction of the college which also has a big playground with all the facilities for playing cricket, table tennis, badminton and athletics. The college conducts various sports events throughout the year.
A Competitive exam Centre having a stock of many competitive examination books is available in the college. It also has books for current affairs, periodicals, collection of newspapers and general knowledge books. The aim of setting this center is to support the aspiring students in the preparation for different competitive examinations like MPSC, UPSC, etc.
The language lab is available in the college for the students of the Department of English. It is equipped with all the required instruments including lingua phone English language software and students can use this facility to improve their fluency and pronunciation.
Miscellaneous Facilities The college is having CCTV installed in all the important locations of the college for security reasons. An online examination form-filling facility is also provided to the students against reasonable charges. There is a paid Xerox facility in the library and can be used by the students during the library hours. There are separate drinking water coolers, water purifiers, separate free two-wheeler parking for boys and girls and clean toilets. A unique feature of a ramp in the college makes it a choice for differently-able students.
