About Dimoria College
Dimoria College a pioneer Institution of higher education, is located about 30 kms to the east of Guwahati city on NH 37. Established in 1979, Dimoria College has completed twenty six glorious years.Offering a large number of subjects in both Arts and Science stream in the Under Graduate as well as Post Graduate Level, Dimoria College Khetri has been able to attract students from the entire north eastern region as well as from the neighbouring country . Post Graduate courses in Assamese, Economics and Eco-Restoration have also shown a very enthusiastic response from the student community. The Post Graduate Course in Eco-Restoration sponsored by University Grants Commission is a pioneering course not only in the North Eastern Region but in the whole country.
Dimoria college, Gauhati came into existence in a very humble way in a part of Khetri High School building. It started only with Higher Secondary classes in the year 1979 and then UG courses in Arts and Science in the years 1986 and 1992 respectively. The Arts stream was brought under the deficit grant-in-aid scheme in the year 1986 while Science stream was brought under the same scheme in the year 1996. Subsequently, some of the PG courses were also introduced in the year 1992 and then other courses were added. A special course on Eco-restoration was added in the year 2004. Later, in the year 2008, Dimoria College signed a MOU with Brandenburg Technical University, Cottbus, Germany in the area of Eco-restoration for mutual exchange of students and faculty between the two institutes.
The college is having ‘A' certification from NACC and in the year 2008, it got a ‘Potential for Excellence' certification from the UGC. It is a unique college in the sense that it offers education from Higher Secondary classes to PG courses and PhD, pursuing facilities under the same roof. In addition to this, it also offers some diploma courses and UGC sponsored certificate courses of six months duration. The college provides remedial courses for SC/ST students as per UGC guidelines.
Facilities The college is spread across twenty-four bighas of land. It has got many facilities for the students like central library, departmental libraries, spacious classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, language laboratory, computer lab, auditorium complex (including audio-visual facilities), 5 number of hostels (2 for girls), playground, sports facilities, and canteen. The campus is wi-fi enabled and internet is available on the campus.
There is a central library in the college which is having a collection of about 18000 books. There are sufficient number of magazines, periodicals, reference books, and journals available for reference. In addition to this, there are departmental libraries where also a good number of books are available.
The college is having 2 museums pertaining to the Department of Anthropology and the Department of Folklore, respectively. There are a number of heritage and cultural items showcasing the ethno cultural aspects of the North-East region of India.
There are good sports facilities and one big playground is also available for outdoor sports. All the sports are available to the students and they are encouraged to participate. NCC (National Cadet Corps) is functional in the college and there is one NCC Girls' unit for the physical and moral development of girl students. NSS (National Service Scheme) scheme is also active in this college and the students who participate in it are given training in personality development, social contributions, and other many such activities which make them a better citizen of the society. Various programmes are organised under the NSS scheme from time to time including annual camps.
AdmissionsThe candidates have to visit the college website and carefully go through the various HS/UG/PG/Diploma/PhD/Certificate courses offered and the eligibility criterion mentioned there before applying online for the same. The interested and eligible candidates have to register in the college portal and provide their basic details along with valid email and mobile numbers. For this, they have to click on the ‘New Registration' button on the college website and submit these details. Once the process of registration is completed the candidate has to login using the created password and then fill the application form and enter all the details carefully before submitting it. Whatever corrections and modifications are required to be done the candidates have to do before submission of the application because after the submission it would not be possible to make any changes.
The candidates have to upload the following documents -- Aadhar card.
- State domicile or Voter ID card.
- Birth certificate.
- Last examination certificate and mark sheet.
- Caste certificate (wherever applicable).
- Scanned copy of Photograph and signature.
Once the process of applying is complete, the candidate has to take a printout of the application for future reference especially at the time of document verification when the candidates are shortlisted for admission. The students should note that at the time of document verification the candidates have to produce all the original documents in respect of their last qualification, age, TC, character, caste, residential status etc. - Umesh
