About Madras School of Social Work
Madras School of Social Work is an autonomous institution affiliated to the University of Madras. It is located in Chennai and was established years back in 1952 by Mary Clubwala Jadhav, a Parsi woman. Mary Clubwala Jadhav had been an eminent social worker and a Padma Shri recipient for her lifetime efforts in the field of social welfare. She has also been honoured at the international level. Even the Army has very well appreciated her efforts during the World War-II. Establishing the Madras School of Social Work has been one of her most distinguished contributions to society.
NAAC accredited, Madras School of Social Work is rated among the top five colleges in the country offering courses in the field of social work. It ranks first in southern India. It is also affiliated to the International Association of Schools of Social Work. The college offers some courses at the graduation and postgraduation level. The courses are on subjects like social work, social welfare, human psychology, and human resource management. Courses are available at the M.Phil and Ph.D. level too. The college also offers one postgraduate diploma program in human resource management.
Infrastructure The college has all the usual facilities like library, computer centre, audio-visual equipment, hostel, dining facilities, canteen, sports, etc. Most of the classrooms are equipped with smart class features like LCD projectors and multimedia equipment. The fully computerized library has a stock of more than 17,000 books. There are several journals as well as periodicals. A photocopying facility is also available.
The computer center is equipped with computers with a network and internet facility. Students have access to internet browsing, emails, creating presentations and data analysis. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. There is also a facility for video conferencing.
There is a separate hostel facility for men and women students. It is, however, limited. Hostel facility is to be applied separately, after taking admission, by obtaining the requisite form from the hostel warden. Both parents and students have to give a joint undertaking towards showing respect to hostel norms and the proper conduct of the student. The hostel mess serves only vegetarian food. Day scholars can also have meals at the mess during the daytime. A separate canteen facility is also available for use by all.
Students are allowed to park their two-wheelers inside the college campus at a designated parking area. Four wheelers of students and visitors are, however, not permitted inside the campus.
Admissions The application process for applying for the UG programs is completely online. Candidates need to visit the official website of Madras School of Social Work for the same. The prospectus and the admission guidelines available at the website help the students with the filling of the form. You will require a valid mobile number and email ID for registering with the site. You will need a scanned copy of your passport size photograph handy while filling up the form. One may apply for more than one course in the same application. The application fee is Rs 350 for each UG course and Rs 500 for the PG course. The fee is to be paid through online channels like net banking, credit and debit cards. There is also provision for paying the fee through demand draft or by cash at the college office, but you will have to check with the college beforehand or check for instructions on the website.
