About Meenakshi College of Engineering
Meenakshi College of Engineering was started in the year 2001 by a public charitable Trust, namely, the Meenakshi Ammal Trust in Chennai. It is affiliated to Anna University as well as AICTE and is serving in the field of education with the help of trust members. It is very easily accessible from the different parts of Chennai as it is situated in the center of the city.
Infrastructure and Facility The college has a big campus with beautiful, scenic plants surrounding it. The classrooms are well arranged and advanced with digital types of equipment. The library is very rich with a collection of more than 40000 books from different fields like Instrumentation, Civil, Electronics, etc. The Universal Decimal Classification Scheme is used for book arrangements and classification in the library and students use the Open Access System to get the books easily. Apart from the books, the library also has various Audio and Video cassettes and CDs related to educational topics. The central library also has an internet facility available for students and staff. There is a cafeteria in the college that offers healthy and hygienic food to the students. Students can enjoy breakfast, snacks, lunch, etc at very reasonable rates there.
Regarding sports, the college fully supports the physical and sports-related activities on the campus. Students participate in various interuniversity, inter-zone, and even national level tournaments for different games including Basketball, Boxing, swimming, etc. Apart from regular sports, the college also has a functional NSS unit. Students participate in the same on a voluntary basis and learn about social issues and services.
For students from far away areas, there is an accommodation facility on the campus. There are separate hostels for boys and girls, having all the facilities required for day-to-day life. These hostels are having their own mess with arrangements for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods. Students can also enjoy watching television in the mess.
The college offers transportation services to pick up and drop the students as well as staff members from different parts of the city. This facility is free for the staff but students need to pay nominal charges to avail college transport. The routes and pick-up points are predefined and the students have to reach there well on time.
Admissions For admissions, the eligibility criteria are clearly mentioned on the college website and applications for admissions can be made online. For admissions in graduate-level degree courses in the field of engineering, candidates need to score at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and mathematics in 12th standard. There is some relaxation for the NRIs and students belonging to other backward castes. For admissions in Post Graduate level courses, 50% marks are required in the graduation for general category whereas the students from reserved category need to score at least 45% marks during graduation. - Padmini
