About Regional Medical Research Centre
Regional Medical Research Centre, Port Blair RMRC, Port Blair was set up in 1983 to look after the requirement of carrying out research on the various communicable and non-communicable diseases that were widespread in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The centre at Port Blair is one of the six regional centres of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It was the endeavour of the centre to look into the various health problems that have been affecting the indigenous population of the islands. The idea of research is also to develop the technical skills among the local populace. The centre thus offers you various PhD programs to undertake in the medical field.
Infrastructure and facilities The medical research centre that is affiliated to the Pondicherry University has advanced facilities for carrying out research in a number of biomedical fields. Here you get to perform state-of-the-art research on a number of topics. Right back in 1983, the institution used to be run in a rented accommodation without having much laboratory facilities for carrying out research. In recent times a number of facilities have been erected.
