About Laxman Singh Mahar Govt. P.G. College
Laxman Singh Mahar Govt. P.G. College is the oldest college in the district Pithoragarh and students from different places of Pithoragarh come here for graduation and Post-graduation courses in Science and humanities. The college was established in the sixties, in picturesque surroundings, and has ample space on the campus. There are sufficient lecture halls, auditorium, science labs, meeting halls, etc for holding the academic activities. The college is well known in the area for its various cultural activities and sports participation.
Government PG College, Pithoragarh is situated in the vicinity of village Bajethi and is about 1.2 km from the Pithoragarh main market area. It is a walkable distance and takes about 15-20 minutes. It has a playground and one hostel for students. It is the oldest graduation college in the Pithoragarh district area. The college is affiliated with Kumaun University and offers various courses like B Sc, B A, M Sc, M A & B Ed. In certain subjects, a PhD/research facility is also available under the head of departments or senior professors in the faculty.
Facilities The college is having a well-equipped library with a reading room, with a large collection of books, a number of journals and periodicals, encyclopaedias, and reference material like the Vedas, Atlas etc. There are hostels for boys as well as girls to accommodate the outside students. There is a dining facility in the hostel. There is a Career Counselling and Placement Cell which helps the students in searching for jobs and advice for further studies or add on qualifications.
There is a good sports facility in the college giving an opportunity to students to learn and excel in them. Tournaments and annual games are held and students are encouraged to take part in them.
There are options of participating in NSS, NCC, Rovers and Rangers etc and interested students can take part and obtain proficiency certificates in them, for which they are given some additional marks in the entrance exams of certain services in the defence(Army) and State Govt.
Admissions The admissions are made based on the rules and regulations as prescribed by Kumaun University. The interested candidates can either register online on the Kumaun University site when the advertisement for admission is announced. Alternatively, one can collect the application form from the college and fill it and submit it along with all the necessary documents like High School and Intermediate certificates & mark sheets for UG admissions, High School, Intermediate, and B.A./B.Sc. certificates & mark sheets for PG admissions along with Transfer and character certificate from the earlier institute, Aadhar card, Caste certificate if applicable, Passport sized photo, and consent letter from the parents. Admissions are made strictly on the basis of merit of the qualifying exam and the selected candidates are called for a document verification session and after the verification of the original document the final admission is declared after which one has to deposit the fee in the college.
