About College of Agriculture
The College of Agriculture at Junagadh was started in June 1960 as the first Government Agricultural College in the state of Gujarat and was affiliated with Gujarat University, Ahmedabad till 1967. Then in 1968, the affiliation was changed to Saurashtra University, Rajkot. Since 1972, the college has been affiliated with Gujarat Agricultural University.
Further, with the division of Gujarat Agricultural University into four new agricultural universities, the College of Agriculture came under the jurisdiction of Junagadh Agricultural University with effect from 01 May 2004.
The medium of education in the early years of this college was Gujarati (the local language) but in 1977 it was changed to English medium. The College of Agriculture at Junagadh is accredited by ICAR, New Delhi.
Facilities Located in Junagadh city 3 kms from the railway station, the College of Agriculture is having air-conditioned classrooms that are equipped with all teaching aids, internet facilities, and CCTV cameras. An A. C. conference hall, AV aids, CCTV camera, and overhead LCD projector are also available. There are well-equipped modern laboratories for conducting practicals and Seminar halls for each department.
A Central Library is there on this campus with a collection of around 55,000 Agricultural related reference books, online databases Viz., AGRIS, Krishi Prabha, J-Gate, EBooks, and J-Gateplus, etc. which help for research studies, and for competitive exams. The library has subscribed to 53 Indian and 11 foreign journals. There is an airconditioned reading room with a capacity of 100 students.
A large sports area has been constructed for outdoor games namely cricket, volleyball, basketball court, kho-kho, and kabaddi with fencing and well- lighted facilities and an indoor sports complex for Table tennis, Badminton, Chess, Gymnasium hall for exercise, etc. Facilities made available for various cultural programs, debate competitions, Students Counselling, Placement Cells, etc.
There are five undergraduate, two Post Graduate (PG Boys), and three Girls hostels with facilities like a Solar water heater, Self-mess, RO cool drinking water, Wi-Fi, Emergency medical, etc
