Let me first complete the correct information about Darbhanga Medical College. Darbhanga Medical college also known as DMCH is situated in Laheriasarai. It is affiliated by Lalit Narayan Mithila University.
It is the oldest medical college of Bihar and have the largest campus in Bihar. A medical college is supposed to be outstanding in my sense if it fulfills three criteria, a brilliant academic level, highly qualified teachers and a wide variety of patients. Darbhanga Medical college is enriched by patients from entire north Bihar and even major part of Nepal.
When Kala azar is a rarity everywhere, this college hospital has a separate kala azar ward. Other department in medicine like cardiology, gastroeneterology, neurology are accomplished by quality doctors. Surgery department is huge in three storeys. Gynae and obs department has a separate building. Apart from these eye, ENT, infectious disease, paediatrics, radiology all have separate units. In total I think it is impossible for a person to see the whole campus in a day without any vehicle.
It was a pride for me to become graduate from this esteemed organization which was started in 1925 as a Temple medical school and was upgraded in 1946. Now the college came out with facility of cancer ward as well as CT scan and MRI investigations.
Regarding patients, in spite of being named in Guiness book of World Record for having maximum clinics in a compact area Benta Chowk, near Darbhanga Medical College hospital, this hospital is always occupied by huge number of patients and the the students from 3rd year (2nd MBBS) to post graduate students get an ample scope to learn and gain experience.
Though there are drawbacks too and one of the most anavoidable drawback is the position of electricity which is very poor. Another drawback is the city is not well developed and if students feel to have some fun, there are very little scope at least outside campus.
Experience is another thing, but I think a graduate from Darbhanga Medical College is certainly ahead in skill than many of its peers.
