Swamy Saswathikananda College, Poothotta, is located in the suburb of the bustling city of Cochin in South India. The beautiful and elegant building nestles in the shadows of a vast coconut grove. In future this new institution will vie with much older ones for the status of the best campus in the state of Kerala.The Prathishta Sree Narayana Guru had made at Aruvippuram during 1888 was an arrow shot in to the air and the changes caused by it's echo in the socio political and spiritual horizon of India needs no comments. It is not out of place to mention that Vaikom Sathyagraha taken place after 31 years of the Prathishta and the Temple Entry Proclamation had to wait for still 4 years speaks volumes of the historical significance of this temple The aim of establishing Poothotta Sree Narayana Vallabha Temple was in fact an attempt to bridge both material and spiritual world where everyone can meet irrespective of caste, creed and other distinctions. Narayana Guru, personification of action and wisdom heralded the equality of man by consecration temples, a privilege exclusively enjoyed by Brahmin, and made a total departure from the blind convention by entrusting the priestly functions to a non-Brahmin. The Guru emphasized the need to get enlightened by education, to get organized to march forward and to get enriched by industrialization. What He wished after consecrating this temple was the establishment of temples of learning around it. The disciples of the Guru here have been trying to fulfill His wishes.
