About Karmveer Abasaheb Alias N.M. Sonawane Arts Commerce and Science College, Satana
Karmveer Abasaheb Alias N.M. Sonawane Arts Commerce and Science College, Satana is an outcome of the hard work and unmatched efforts of Maratha Vidya Prasaral Samaj. M.V.P. Samaj is more than 100 years old and is among the famous educational centers in Maharashtra. It was started by some social workers, full of energy and determination and the Samaj was registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act. Currently, it has 323 institutes and is educating more than one lakh and 50 thousand students. It is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University and is reaccredited by NAAC with Grade “A" recently.
Infrastructure and facilitiesThe college is spread over an area of around 15 acres and has 46 classrooms, 5 separate tutorial rooms, 12 laboratories and a big playground. The college also has seminar rooms, conference rooms and committee rooms for various purposes. An auditorium with a capacity of 150 people is also there in the college. The list of labs includes commerce lab, language lab, psychology lab, science lab and well-set research labs.
The library accommodates around 100 students at a time and is stocked with more than 85000 books. It has also subscribed to more than 100 journals. The ICT infrastructure includes 108 computer systems, Wi-Fi connectivity, LAN terminals, some LCDs, televisions, etc.
Separate hostels are also available for students on the campus. The boys' hostel can accommodate 60 students whereas the girls' hostel can accommodate 180 students.
Apart from all these facilities, there is a gymnasium, teacher's house, guest house, medical center, common rooms, transport and canteen facility.
Co-curricular activitiesThe college has included many other activities or services in their academic schedule and NSS is one among them. Students participate in it on a voluntary basis and get opportunities to interact with society. They learn about social problems and involve themselves in solving them.
There is a Health Care Center in the college that was started in 2000. Doctors routinely visit the college.
The Students Welfare club runs various schemes for the students. It includes the Earn and Learn Scheme, Nirbhaya Kanya Abhiyan, Personality Development scheme and Accidental Insurance Policy Scheme. This club also conducts the student council elections, supports self-employment of students and provides information related to various State and Government schemes and scholarships.
Placement cell is responsible for career guidance and placement of the students. It works for skill development in the students and also develops professionalism and employment-readiness. Companies like Yashwant Solutions, Armstrong, etc are regularly recruiting the deserving candidates every year. ICICI Bank and HDFC bank also connect with the college for placement purposes.
Sports activities include both indoor as well as outdoor games. The students can participate in activities like races, jumps, javelin throw, etc. All the facilities and equipment are available for football, cricket, basketball, hockey and badminton within the campus.
Distance EducationThe College offers distance education for B.A. and B.Com. under the center named Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University. It started in the year 2004 and is offering education to more than 200 students through distance education mode.
