About Silichar Medical College and Hospital
Located with its surrounding scenic beauty in the district of Cachar in the southern part of the state of Assam, the Silchar Medical College is a well known medical institution in the country for its academic performances and patients care. Being situated in a very strategic geographic location, it also renders its services to the ailing community of the neighbouring states like Mizoram, North Tripura, West Manipur and South Meghalaya.
Facilities Being a medical college, it has all the advanced facilities required for medical studies and practice, including well-equipped laboratories. The college library is a huge one occupying around 1800 square meters of area. It is located on the first floor of the building and also occupies half of the 2nd floor. It has internet connectivity. National Medical /library ERMED Consortium offers free access to 239 online foreign journals of all the available volumes. There are more than 27000 books, a book bank with more than 4000 books, various non-medical books, and journals. It also has a big collection of medical publications and books on biographies, law, health, and many more. Students can use the library from 9.00 AM to 9.00 PM on all days other than Saturday. On Saturdays, it is available from 3.00 AM to 3.00 PM. The library has computers having internet and multimedia facility. It also has a LIBSYS software management tool to manage the library.
The college offers residential facilities to both boys and girls. There are 2 boys and 2 girls hostels for undergraduate students within the campus that can accommodate 450 boys and 274 girls respectively. There are separate hostel facilities for Postgraduate students, nursing students, paramedical students, and pharmacy students also. All the hostels have their own mess with a spacious dining hall. Gym, study rooms, TV rooms, and indoor and outdoor games facilities are also available in the hostels.
AdmissionsSilichar Medical College and Hospital offers UG, PG, and Diploma courses in medical science subjects. For the UG course (MBBS) they have 100 seats out of which 85 are reserved for state quota and 15 are for all India quota. The admission is accorded through the NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under graduate) route. The duration of the MBBS course is 5-1/2 years including a 1-year internship program. For the PG Degree course, the duration is 3 years while for PG Diploma it is only 2 years. The admission is given based on the merit of the NEET-PG entrance examination. There are so many courses at the PG level but seats are limited and ranging from 2 to 14 only.
