About Dyal Singh College
Dyal Singh College was started in the year 1910 in Lahore. But after partition, it was shifted to Karnal and Delhi. It was started with the hard-earned money donated by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia and got affiliated to University of Delhi in the year 1959. The college campus is a sprawling one on 11 acres of land in South Delhi, near Lodhi Garden. It has got accredited with Grade ‘A' by NAAC and has acquired 20th rank in India by NIRF evaluation in 2019.
FacilitiesThe facilities at Dyal Singh College begins with its spacious classrooms and a rich library. The library has a collection of more than 95,000 books and around 55 journals and magazines. It can be used on all weekdays from 8.30 AM till 5.00 PM. The books can be issued or returned from 9.30 AM to 1.00 PM or 2.00 PM to 3.00 PM on all working days except Saturday. The facility can be used only by the registered members and they need to use their bar-coded library membership identity cards at the entry. Students can also have circulation service, Reference service, OPAC, and CAS in this library. For visually-impaired users, the library has a separate section with computers installed with JAWS software, Braille printer, scanners, etc. This section also has Braille books for such users.
The college has a medical room with all necessary first aid facilities. It is managed by a trained nurse and in case of a medical emergency, hospital services are utilised by the college administration.
There is a beautiful lush green garden full of trees and plants. The trees in the garden are given numbers to keep a proper record and to maintain the beauty of the plants, in-house compost manure is used.
Apart from these, the college has a spacious canteen, a solar panel and an equal opportunity cell.
Extracurricular activitiesTo support extracurricular activities, the college has different functional societies. It includes NCC, NSS, and Arts & Cultural Society. | Admissions in Dyal Singh CollegeCandidates (including the foreign students) interested to take admission to this college have to visit the Delhi University website for applying as all the admissions to UG courses in this college are administered from there only. The admissions are strictly based on the merit of the class XII exam and detailed eligibility conditions for admission to the UG courses in this college are -
- There is no minimum age bar for the candidates for admission to the UG courses.
- The candidate applying for admission should have passed the Class XII examination of any Board/University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized and accepted as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian University (AIU).
In admission to the UG Arts/Social Science courses, a maximum of two language subjects is allowed for the calculation of marks for the 'Best Four' combination of subjects. In most of the Arts/Social Science subjects, a minimum of 45% marks in class XII would be mandatory while in some of the courses like Programming and Commerce 40% will suffice. In the UG Science stream in all the courses, 45% is mandatory.
- The candidates should have passed in the individual subjects (including the practicals wherever applicable) in which they want to take admission in UG course and not merely in the total score. In some courses like Computer Science 60% marks in class XII, Mathematics would be required. The candidates having 'promoted' or 'compartment' status would not be considered. However, candidates having gap years in their education would not be a disqualification.
- As per Govt directives seats are reserved for SC / ST / OBC / PwD / CW (Armed Forces) / Wards of Kashmiri migrants etc.
