About Government Arts College
|The Government Arts College located at Karur was started in the year 1966. It is one of the prestigious institutions in Karur to offer education to the students in Arts and Science. It is an autonomous institution affiliated to Bharathidasan University. The college is functioning as a co-education institution since 1972. The institution is re-accredited with an ‘A' grade by NAAC. The college has good infrastructure and an experienced faculty.|
AcademicsThe college has nearly 15 arts and science departments which offer UG, PG, Ph.D and M.Phil Programmes. Each and every department of the college has qualified and experienced faculty members. Research activities, major and minor projects are being conducted by the scholars. The projects are conducted through the funds provided by UGC, TNSCST, TANSCHE, etc.
The college also offers Computer Literacy Programme and TNPSC coaching classes to the students. In addition to the subjects offered by the department, the college also provides special training to the students to improve their personality and communication skills. The placement cell of the college conducts placement related training and activities for the students.
InfrastructureThe Government Arts College, Karur is located in the heart of the city and has a big campus. Apart from the usual classrooms, laboratories and library there are smart classrooms. Each and every department of the lab has well equipped laboratory with the latest equipment. The college has language lab, skill development center, soft skill training center and women development council for the personality and communication development of the students. The entire campus is provided with Wi-fi facilities and is installed with Solar panels and CCTV cameras. The college library is well stocked with books, journals, magazines and e-resources. The college has a network resource center and a research committee.
The cafeteria which is located inside the college is run by women's self-help group and it provides healthy food and snacks. The college has a health center and purified RO water system. An herbal garden is present inside the campus and is maintained by the Department of Botany. The college auditorium is large with a seating capacity of 500 plus students and is convenient for conducting conferences, technical events, cultural events and large meetings. The college also has a playground and a gym.
ActivitiesThe college has many clubs and associations. The clubs that are operating in the college are NSS, YRC, RRC, Rotaract club, Leo club, Environmental edu, Population edu, Consumer club and NCC. Each and every club that is operating in the college organizes and participates in the social awareness programmes, blood donation camps, tree plantation drives, etc. The NCC cadets of the college participate in the Republic Day parade at New Delhi. The college encourages the students to participate in games and sports and provides special training too.
