About the college
The Avvaiyar Government College For Women started in 1972 under the Government of Pondicherry to give education to girls of that region. It was affiliated to Madras University and later the affiliation changed to Pondicherry University. It is accredited with Grade B by NAAC Bengaluru.

The college infrastructure and facilities include college building, Canteen, Students Co-Operative Store for buying stationary and books, Scholarship for eligible students, Banking facility, Student's Rest Room and Health Care facilities for any urgent medical situations, Parking area, Post Box for receiving letters.
