About Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences
SMIMS was started in the year 1997 as a part of Sikkim Manipal University. At that time, it was like a Central Referral Hospital and the enrolments for the MBBS course started in 2001.
Infrastructure- The institute has around 288 faculty members and offers various specializations in the field of medical science. The campus occupies 25 acres of land and the architectural style is a blend of both modern as well as native style.
It has all modern facilities like well-equipped lecture halls, a big library with a capacity to seat around 150 students. Apart from the collection of books, the library has computers with internet facility and also provides interactive CDs for better learning.
An auditorium that can seat around 750 people with all required facilities, a conference hall and a seminar hall with around 45 seats are also there on the campus for various academic activities and events.
Hostel facility- Hostel is available for around 600 students and offers full-day water and power supply. The rooms have attached bathrooms and the dining hall has a sitting capacity of around 300. Apart from these basic needs, it has TV rooms, internet facility, gymnasium and courts for badminton, volleyball, and basketball.
Other advantages- The institute offers scholarship of around Rs. 2.5 Lakhs annually to deserving Indian students. It also has 20% of seats reserved for Sikkim students and supports research in medical science by providing all modern and advanced facilities.
