About Government Arts College (Autonomous)
Government Arts College, Coimbatore was started in the year 1852. It is one of the oldest and best government institutions. The college has attained its autonomous status in 1987 and is affiliated to Bharathiar University. It is a co-educational institution and is accredited with an ‘A' grade by NAAC. Government Arts College, Coimbatore is among the top 3 Arts and Science colleges in Tamil Nadu. The aim of the college is to provide quality education to the students. The college has collaboration with universities in United Kingdom.
AcademicsGovernment Arts College, Coimbatore offers 23 UG courses and 20 PG courses in Arts and Science. Many research programmes are also carried under various topics by the research scholars in the college. The students can also pursue their degree by attending shift II classes. Degree course in defence studies is one of the unique courses offered by the Government Arts College, Coimbatore. Both English and Tamil medium of instructions are available in the college. The college also organizes seminars, conferences and workshops on various topics.
The college monitors the academic excellence of the students by conducting internal assessments and semester examinations. The controller of examinations is fully automated and is responsible for evaluating and assessing the academic knowledge of the students.
InfrastructureGovernment Arts College, Coimbatore is located at an accessible location and the campus has many trees and it gives a cool environment and good infrastructure to the students. The classrooms are spacious, furnished and ventilated. Laboratories are available for each department and are well-maintained. Students are given practical knowledge on various subjects by conducting experiments using modern and latest equipment available in the laboratories. The college library has collection of books, magazines, journals and research papers.
ActivitiesInterested students are given training in sports and games. The college allows the students to participate in the sports tournaments and events. NCC, NSS and YRC are the social wings operating in the college. The volunteers of YRC and NSS organizes blood donation campus, rallies, awareness programmes, etc.
