About Science College, Hinjilicut
Science College Hinjilicut was started in the year 1963 and is now a very much reputed institute of Odisha. The college started as an outcome of the combined efforts made by Late Kishore Chandra Panda and some other people of that locality. During initial days, the college was also financially supported by the royal families of that time and nowadays it is having full support from the K.C (Trust) Managing Committee and the Chief Minister of Odisha.
The college campus is occupying around 10 acres of land besides the National Highway 59 and has acquired the autonomous status in the year 2014-15. Currently, the college is offering co-education with various degree courses in the field of Commerce, Science, Arts, Computers, etc. It also has approval and is offering some professional courses like E-Commerce, EETC, etc to the students.
Infrastructure and facilitiesThe college building is having more than 25 spacious classrooms, advanced science labs, 1 language lab and 2 computer labs. Apart from these academic-related facilities, the college has a playground and a gym to fulfill the physical fitness-related requirements of the students. For teachers, there are 8 staff quarters that serve the purpose of accommodation for teachers from far-off places.
The college has a central library stocked with more than 29,000 books. It also has subscription for various journals, magazines and newspapers.
There are 3 common rooms for the students. Boys and girls have separate recreational rooms with facilities for many indoor games and one common reading room with newspapers and magazines for students to utilize their free time. The appointed teachers manage these common rooms and student's requirements.
To offer accommodation to the students, the college has 3 hostels, among which 2 hostels are for boys with the capacity for 65 students in each and 1 hostel for girls with the capacity to accommodate around 40 girls.
ActivitiesThe College promotes and even supports many curricular activities apart from academics and College Magazine is one among them. The magazine gets printed every year to offer a platform to nourish the creativity of students and staff.
Students are also allowed to take part in N.C.C. as per their interest. They need to fill and submit the forms for their enrollment during July and August every year. The purpose is to develop the personality, discipline, courage, etc and to instill qualities like leadership, sportsmanship, selfless service and many more.
YRC or Youth Red Cross is also functional in the college to promote good health. Both boys and girls can participate in the same. This group organizes various programs for promoting cleanliness, hygiene, good health, donations, social service and other related activities.
Students who are not participating in N.C.C. or Y.R.C. can participate in N.S.S. Students enrolled in this program need to dedicate at least 120 hours a year, including attending various camps.
Lastly, the college also has a group “Rovers and Rangers" and students can participate in the same voluntarily.
Financial SupportThe college has a provision to support the deserving students financially if their family income is not sufficient to fulfill their education needs. They can get Free Studentship after submitting the required documents like income certificate of parents, mark sheet of the previous class, etc.
Apart from that, various scholarships are also available for students and the list includes National Scholarships, Senior Merit Scholarship, Post Metric Scholarship, National Talent Scholarship, Freedom Fighter's Scholarship, National Loan Scholarship, Teacher's Children Scholarship and many more. - Padmini
