About Sankara Institute of Management Science
Sankara Institute of Management Science (SIMS), Coimbatore comes under the umbrella group of the Sankara Educational Institutions. The college specializes in offering MBA courses to its students. With its state-of-the-art facilities at its campus, the institute provides management education at affordable costs. The college ranks high amongst management colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu. At the national level, it ranks amongst the top hundred colleges.
SIMS, as the college is popularly known, was incepted in the year 2000. Apart from teaching the latest concepts on management education, the institute instills its students with high moral and ethical values. The popularity of the college in the industry circle is such that it has been consistently providing excellent placement opportunities to its students. The college has been ranked with the highest Grade ‘A' by the NAAC. The college is affiliated with the Bharathiar University and the courses offered are approved by the AICTE. Some of the specializations in MBA offered here are marketing, finance, human resource, production, shipping & logistics, systems, and healthcare management.
Infrastructure The college is located on 30 acres of land. It has a sprawling campus with world-class infrastructure. Located between Saravanampatty and Thudiyalur road, the campus is easily accessible from all parts of Coimbatore city and its surroundings. The lush greenery inside the campus provides an excellent environment for teaching and learning.
The gallery classrooms at SIMS are all airconditioned and have smartboard facilities. In fact, most other facilities here are airconditioned, like AC seminar hall, AC video conference hall and so on. Its most modern features include, Wi-Fi enabled campus with high speed internet connectivity, a modern computer lab, digital library facilities, and biometric attendance. Then there are facilities like insight room, newsroom, indoor sports lounge, Yoga room, cafeteria, mess, prayer room, stationery shops, RO drinking water facility, transport, apart from separate hostels for boys and girls. The college has a cricket and football ground and a gymnasium as well.
To help the students get adjusted to the new environment and new friends, the college at the beginning of the courses arranges for an orientation week. The O-week as it is popularly called is kind of a fun-filled week with lots of activities like quizzes, sports, Zumba dance, treasure hunt, motivational speeches, and a 3-day long outboard training, where the students get to learn team skills, leadership skills, and learn to handle challenges. As part of its later training curriculum, most of the training is discussion and activity-based. The college also arranges for various industry visits, internships, and CEO talks.
The excellent placement opportunities provided by the college are a result of the comprehensive placement training that it provides for the entire two-year duration of the MBA course. The placement training curriculum includes aspects of soft skills, communication skills, quantitative aptitude, interview skills, and group discussions. The college has an exclusive career development skill for this purpose.
Admissions For admissions at Sankara Institute of Management Science, candidates should have a minimum of 50% marks in their graduation. The undergraduate degree can be of any discipline from a recognized university. They should have also appeared for either MAT, CMAT, or TANCET. Those not appeared for any of the above three can still apply by appearing for the CET exam taken by the college. Based on the results in any of the above tests, candidates are called for a personal interview. Selections for the different MBA programs will be based on the candidate's academic performance and interview.
As part of its financial support for meritorious students, the college awards scholarships to its students. All students scoring 50% or above marks in their UG are awarded a scholarship amount of Rs 40,000. A similar amount is also awarded to those who take admission through the TANCET, CMAT, or MAT exam.
