About Kumaon Kesari Pt. Badridutt Pandey Government Post Graduate College, Bageshwar
Kumaon Kesari Pt. Badridutt Pandey Government Post Graduate College, Bageshwar was established in the year 1974 and is located in district Bageshwar in the state of Uttarakhand. Initially, it was opened as a degree college (for graduation degree courses) and later in 1979, it was upgraded to Post Graduate College. The college is named after Shri Badri Dutt Pandey. He was instrumental in removing the Kulee Begar practice (exploitation of local labourers) from the Uttarakhand area in the time of British rule in India. For this commendable work, he was honoured as ‘Kumaon Kesari'.
The college is approved under UGC and has NAAC accreditation. The college campus is spread over 17.5 acres of land and is situated at the bank of river Saryu passing through Bageshwar. The present strength of the students is about 3500 studying in various subjects in Art, Science and Commerce faculties.
College FacilitiesThe college is having good sports facility for most of the sports like cricket, hockey, football, etc and there is one full-time lecturer to take care of this function. Annual sports are held every year in which sports and athletic activities are taken up.
One common library where course books, as well as other supporting literature, is available, and students are issued 2 books at a time on presentation of the library card. As part of the library, a reading room is also available for students to read newspapers and magazines.
There are 3 hostels available - one for the boys, one for the girls, and one exclusively for SC (Reserve Category) students. Hostels have their own mess. The girl's hostel is having a warden room also.
The college is having basic amenities like Health Centre, Canteen, and Post Office. The health centre provides first aid to the students and the staff whenever required. The canteen is serving snacks and meals in the daytime. The branch of Post Office on the campus is very helpful for the students for their needs related to it.
College is having NCC (National Cadet Corps) which is an advantageous activity as the C certificate holders of NCC can directly go for SSB interviews in defence services. There are two divisions of NCC in the college one for the boys (165 seats) and another for the girls (85 seats). Admission to NCC is given on the basis of physical fitness and extra-curricular achievements. For successful completion of the NCC course, 75% attendance in the NCC parades is mandatory and outdoor camps are also compulsory for the NCC cadets. B and C certificates are provided to the successful cadets on completion of the Course.
College is also having NSS (National Service Scheme) and there are 4 units of it for boys and girls enrolling 400 students. In NSS, regular activities and 7 days special camps are organized. Students completing NSS can benefit by supplementary marks in many entrance tests conducted by Central Govt and State Govt and 15 marks advantage in B.Ed. entrance test.
Further, the college has got one unit of Rovers Scouts and also one unit of Rangers Scout. The interested students can get themselves enrolled in that scout activity. - Umesh
